FALL IS HERE!!! What does that mean? Cold weather alot of insects are dead which means the bats are not going to be out at night starting November! However they still need a place live so why not your attic! Bats will stay dormant in the winter months and walk on the wings in your attic or go into wall voids and stay warm until March. They use 80% of their energy when they fly so they need that to survive the winter months.

Rodents are on the move right now as it's way to cold for them. Also it's harvest season.

The Austin School District sent out notice to parents and guardians of students in the Community Learning Center Wednesday evening that due to the presence of bats in the CLC, school instruction will be canceled for those students from Thursday, September 1st to Monday, September 12th.

Austin Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Joey Page stated in a message to the affected parents and guardians Wednesday that the district has determined that the presence of the bats in the Community Learning Center requires the district to move the instruction of students to another building. Dr. Page went on to state that there have been no student health or safety issues attributed to the bats, but out of an abundance of caution, he stated that the district has decided to move further education of students to the elementary buildings around the district. As soon as the arrangements have been finalized, Dr. Page stated in the message that the district will communicate more specific information, including the location of the affected student’s classroom. He added that in order to accomplish this extremely large task, school instruction will be cancelled from September 1st through the 12th.

Dr. Page went on to state in the message that parents and guardians will be notified of their child’s new classroom location, along with changes to transportation if applicable on or before Friday, September 9th. He also indicated that the CLC’s new Kids Korner Program will be closed on Thursday, September 1st and Friday, September 2nd, and it will be reopened with normal operations at Sumner Elementary on Tuesday, Setpember 6th. Dr. Page stated in the letter that Kids Korner staff will share further information with families and caregivers.

Dr. Page went on to state in the letter that the district is committed to the safety and the well-being of its students and staff, and he added that the district regrets any inconvenience that the situation may cause in the lives of the affected students and their families. Dr. Page added that the district will continue to provide those affected by the situation at the CLC with the most current information and updates.

Bat Fact: did you know bats DO in fact fly around the daytime to cool off!!! I found this out 1st hand today! Due to the high Temps it gets to hot in the attic so the bat needs to go out and cool off!
