My calendar and I are currently not on speaking terms.

September has been meetings. Meetings about meetings. Meetings to prepare for meetings. Meetings that result in scheduling another meeting.

I’m fairly certain I’ve conducted business from every coffee shop, restaurant and available table with WiFi in Sioux Falls. (If I haven’t visited you where should I go in October?!)

But somewhere between the laptops, lattes, proposals, customer experience strategy sessions, big conversations, new opportunities and an absolutely unreasonable number of calendar invites, I realized this is exactly what I’ve been working toward.

Ashley Lane is growing. Client work is growing. The conversations around customer journey, customer experience and business growth are getting bigger. And some really exciting things are taking shape.

Apparently this season of Ashley Lane is brought to you by overcommitment, overcaffeination and a MacBook charger.

September, you’ve been a lot. ☕️💻 And I’m really freaking grateful for it.

Anyhow, it’s Saturday morning. Guess what I have? Another meeting. ✌️

Here is what jumps out at me in the first 60 seconds... ⏰

1. How quickly someone answers the phone (or doesn't)
2. What your space tells people about your standards
3. How your team talks about customers when customers aren't listening
4. Whether you're solving their problem or selling them something
5. If you remember their last visit (or last conversation)
6. How you handle the awkward pause (when they don't know what to ask next)
7. Whether they leave feeling like they made the right choice

From experience, most businesses focus on number 4 but the best ones? They nail 1-7.

Which one would make the biggest difference in your customer experience right now? Let me know in the comments or DM and let's have a conversation about it!

Something that I have learned after 100+ business consultations:

People don't cheap out on things that save them money.

They cheap out on things that don't move the needle.

So, what's actually worth the investment? Swipe through. These 4 things have made the difference between businesses that stay stuck and businesses that scale.

Which one would you change the most for your business right now?

Here is something that took me 10 years to see clearly:

Most businesses think they have a marketing problem. They don't, they have a customer journey problem.

They know how to get someone's attention. They don't know how to walk them from 'I have a problem' all the way to 'Let's work together.'

So prospects disappear at stage 2 or stage 3 ... or they say yes and then ghost you at the invoice.

Swipe through. See where you think your people are disappearing.

Which stage is costing you the most customers right now? Comment below and I'll show you what fixes it.

So incredibly proud of Steffanie Holtrop! 💜 She has been such a wonderful biz partner, mentor, inspiration, sounding board, and most importantly, friend.

I genuinely don’t know how she juggles everything she does, but she shows up for all of it with an incredible work ethic, a huge heart, and so much dedication to the people and projects she cares about. Working alongside her makes me want to work harder, lead better, and continue becoming the kind of woman and business owner I aspire to be.

So deserving, Steff! I’m incredibly grateful for you. 💜 And congratulations to ALL of the EmBe EmBeliever nominees! What an amazing group of people to celebrate! 🥂

Found the perfect workplace outside the office.

I spent nearly four hours working out of Legends yesterday with back-to-back business meetings, and somewhere between the great views and the OG Smash Burger, I found myself paying attention to the experience.

Occupational hazard when you work in customer experience.

The food was fantastic, our server was attentive and genuinely kind, and then the manager took a moment to stop by our table, introduce himself and make sure we were taken care of.

Such a small touch. Such a noticeable difference.

That’s the thing about customer experience: it isn’t always some massive strategy or elaborate gesture. Sometimes it’s simply noticing your customer, making them feel welcome and giving them a reason to remember how they felt in your space.

Legends absolutely did that.

And yes, the OG Smash Burger lived up to the hype. I’ll definitely be back—laptop and all.

Hi, if you're new here, I am Ashley.

Six things that are true about me:

Book in one hand, coffee in the other
I have a spreadsheet for that
Certified plant killer
Fur baby mom 🐾
"I have an idea" is my most used sentence
Antisocial socialite

Here is the seventh: I cannot walk into a business without noticing everything. Was I greeted? Did I know where to go? Did anyone care that I was there?

I turned that into a job. As a customer experience consultant, I walk your business the way your customer does and tell you what they will never say out loud.

If you've ever wondered why people visit once and never come back, that is the exact thing I help look for.

What is one thing you wish someone would tell you honestly about your business? Comment below.

One thing about me....I do not skimp on, things that return value. Here are five things I will happily spend my money on.

👉Health & fitness
👉Buying local - farmer's market
👉Books
👉My time
👉Good food & experiences

Every one of these gives me something back. That is my only rule.

Here is what I notice about businesses: owners can tell me what they spend money on but very few can tell me why, or what it is giving back.

That is the same question I ask about customer retention strategy. Where is the money going and is it actually keeping people around?

That question is where a real customer retention strategy starts.

Comment WORTH and I will send you the link to explore it together. Giving you clarity on where your customer retention strategy starts, with you being intentional about your own investments.

You need a customer experience audit if...

You're getting leads but not customers.
Customers buy once and never come back.
You're competing on price because they don't see the value.
You've hired three agencies and nothing moved.
You know something is broken. You just do not know what.

Here is what happens in a 20-minute call with me.

I walk one section of your business the way your customer does. I find the first friction point. I tell you exactly what I would fix first.

No obligation. Just clarity.

I've got 5 spots open.

Comment JOURNEY and I'll send you the link to setup your call.
