The PC Scrappers Journey

Every great business begins with a purpose.

For me, that journey started on June 21, 1997, when I founded Bits-N-Bytes Computer Repairs. My goal was simple: help people repair their computers instead of replacing them. As the years went by, more and more customers began asking the same question:

"What can I do with my old or broken computers?"

At first, I started collecting unwanted computers simply to help my customers. Before long, I realized that thousands of pounds of electronics were ending up in landfills when many of the materials could be reused, refurbished, or responsibly recycled.

That realization sparked a new mission.

In the early 2000s, I began building what would eventually become PC Scrappers while still operating Bits-N-Bytes. For several years, both businesses operated side by side. As computer repairs declined and electronics recycling became increasingly important, my focus gradually shifted toward responsible recycling and data destruction. PC Scrappers was later formally registered as an LLC in 2022.

Today, PC Scrappers operates from a 4,000-square-foot facility, providing electronics recycling, secure data destruction, IT asset disposition (ITAD), and component recovery services for businesses and the public throughout the region.

The journey hasn't been easy.

I have built this company while living with Retinitis Pigmentosa and Usher Syndrome Type II, conditions that have caused significant vision and hearing loss. Despite those challenges, I have never allowed my disability to define me or stop me from serving others.

PC Scrappers is about more than recycling electronics.

It is about creating opportunities for people who deserve a second chance, supporting individuals with disabilities, protecting our environment, and giving businesses a trusted local partner for responsible electronics recycling.

Over the years, our mission has remained the same:

Keep electronic waste out of landfills.

Protect sensitive data through secure destruction.

Recover valuable materials responsibly.

Create meaningful employment opportunities.

Give back to our community whenever possible.

As we continue pursuing ISO 9001 certification, our vision is to grow PC Scrappers into one of the Midwest's leading electronics recycling and IT asset disposition companies while continuing to serve our community with integrity, honesty, and respect.

I don't want to be remembered for how much money I made. I want to be remembered as a giving entrepreneur who cared more about protecting our planet, helping people, and leaving the world better than I found it.

A Message from the Founder

When I started repairing computers in 1997 through Bits-N-Bytes Computer Repair, I never imagined that one question from my customers would shape the next chapter of my life.

People would often ask, "What should I do with my old computer?"

At the time, there weren't many local options for responsibly recycling electronics. Rather than tell people to throw them away, I started collecting them myself.

That simple decision grew into what is now PC Scrappers.

Over the years, I have watched technology change dramatically, but one thing has remained constant: electronics contain valuable materials that should be recovered and hazardous materials that should never end up in our landfills.

For more than two decades, I have been committed to giving computers and electronics a responsible end-of-life solution. Along the way, I have helped divert more than 40,000 pounds of CRT leaded glass from landfills, properly recycle thousands of pounds of batteries, and process countless electronic devices in an environmentally responsible manner.

PC Scrappers was built on a simple belief: doing the right thing matters.

Our company exists to provide businesses, schools, municipalities, organizations, and residents with a trusted partner for electronics recycling, IT asset disposition, secure data destruction, and resource recovery.

As we look toward the future, our vision is to continue growing while maintaining the same values that started this journey. We are investing in quality systems, pursuing ISO 9001, expanding our capabilities, creating jobs, and building a company that customers can trust for years to come.

This business has never been just about recycling electronics. It has always been about serving our community, protecting the environment, and leaving the next generation with a cleaner future.
