Happy to announce that our team has published the first comparative strategy study evaluating the best way to handle Factor Xa Inhibitors (apixaban, rivaroxaban) transitions to unfractionated heparin infusions. A huge debate has raged since these drugs launched if you need to use aPTT to monitor heparin or not in this situation. I just wrote a new blog post on this with a link to our paper; check it out:

Pharmacy Innovations Conference on Antithrombotic Therapy (PICAT) goes virtual for 2020 on Dec. 5!

Many have heard me rave about the PICAT meeting in the past. In short, it is the premier annual meeting focused on antithrombotic drug therapy targeted at practicing pharmacists.

This meeting typically takes place in the same city as ASHP Midyear on the Saturday before Midyear starts. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this meeting has gone virtual, making it much more accessible for all. Loads, and LOADS or high quality CE!!!!

This is a fantastic meeting for all who are interested in antithrombotic drug therapy! Great meeting for residents, too!

PICAT 2020 is an online conference, but the event will offer plenty of opportunities for learning and engagement on anticoagulation therapy.

Really proud of our outpatient anticoagulation clinic for winning a prestigious, internal quality award at our health-system for increasing home INR monitoring. This was critical in our response, and allowed us to avoid many needless exposures of patients and staff.
