One of the things I love most about “LeadHERship: Inspiring Women Leading with Purpose” is the diversity of experiences represented throughout the book.

Women from different backgrounds, professions, countries, and stages of life share stories that reveal a common truth:

Leadership begins when we embrace our voice, trust our experiences, and use what we've learned to positively influence others.

That message feels more important than ever.

If you don't have staff yet, or you're not ready to hire anyone full-time, that's not a reason to keep doing everything yourself. It's a reason to learn how to delegate to someone you haven't met in person.

I have decades of experience hiring and training staff, yet I still found it daunting the first time I looked for a virtual assistant (VA). I didn't know where to start. Handing off work to someone I'd never sit across a desk from felt like it should be harder than it turned out to be. So I found a freelancer who had already built Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for exactly the kind of tasks I wanted a VA to handle, and I hired her first to get the VA process going for me.

I made sure that every task I handed off had a clear definition of what a good job looked like. I established deadlines and outcome criteria. I set up systems for communicating across a distance. And we made adjustments as we went.

Now that I have real experience with how the VA process works, I'm delegating more, not less. And now my VA knows how to create her own SOP’s. What used to feel like losing control turned out to be what gave me more of it. My VA has multiplied my time and productivity.

I’m excited for this conversation!

Introducing our 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 panel! 💜

What does it really mean to be bold in business?

Not just to take risks. Not just to work harder. But to build a business that supports your life, reflects your values, creates financial confidence, and gives you the freedom to define success on your own terms.

At the 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗕𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, 𝗥𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗰𝗸, 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆, and 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 will come together for 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀—a conversation about creating businesses that are profitable, sustainable, aligned, and designed to support the women behind them.

Each of these women brings a very different perspective to that conversation:

✨ 𝗥𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 helps overworked business operators become empowered business owners, building companies that can thrive without requiring their constant involvement. Drawing on 45 years as a serial entrepreneur—including building an eight-figure business she later sold—Ral brings a powerful perspective on business growth, owner independence, and creating true freedom as an entrepreneur.

✨ 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗰𝗸 brings a perspective on creating sustainable success without sacrificing yourself in the process. Through her Clarity-First™ frameworks and The Systems Sanctuary™, she helps entrepreneurs align who they are with how they work—creating systems and structures that support their energy, values, business, and life.

✨ 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆, Money Coach & Money Whisperer, helps entrepreneurs and couples transform their relationship with money so it becomes a source of clarity, confidence, and possibility rather than stress or scarcity. She brings a powerful perspective on money mindset, financial confidence, and creating a healthier relationship with money.

✨ 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹, CPA & Wealth Strategist, helps women and business owners understand and master the whole money equation—how to make more money, keep more money, and grow more money. With more than three decades of financial expertise, she brings real-world wisdom around profitability, financial confidence, and building lasting wealth.

Four women. Four perspectives. One powerful conversation about what can happen when we stop measuring success by how much we can carry—and start building businesses that truly support the lives we want to live.

John and I were once completely trapped in our own business. We handled the hiring, the marketing, the financial decisions, the day-to-day operations, and virtually every major call at Hawaiian Vacations, our scheduled charter airline, personally, and none of it could have happened without us being there.

The real problem wasn't the workload, though that was daunting. The real problem was that the business couldn't scale because our capacity was capping growth. And the life we actually wanted, like travel, time with our kids, some real flexibility, was never going to be possible while we were running things like mom-and-pop operators.

So we built the systems we'd been avoiding. We documented our decision-making, put metrics in place, trained up real leadership, and delegated responsibilities we'd been quietly hoarding.

Eventually the business was able to run without us needing to be there every day. Then we hired a COO and CFO, and we were free to step away from the day-to-day and live the life we had dreamed of.

The lesson I keep coming back to with my own clients is this: you cannot scale a business that depends entirely on you. Systems and measurable decision-making are what actually turn an operator into an owner.

Are you delegating enough to step away from your business? Take 3 minutes to find out how you are doing in creating a business that doesn’t need you every day. See the link to my Owner Diagnostic in the comments.

Delegation doesn't create lasting impact if your team doesn't understand the numbers behind the tasks and decisions you're handing them.

Hawaiian Vacations was profitable and growing, but John and I were still managing almost everything ourselves because our team didn't actually understand how their day-to-day choices affected the company's bottom line. And you can't hand someone real decision-making authority when they can't see what a good decision looks like, or what the consequences are.

So we opened the books. We trained our entire team to read our financial statements, borrowing straight from Jack Stack's The Great Game of Business. We provided metrics everyone could see and understand, and then we tied bonuses to hitting them.

The team became financially literate fast once their own paychecks depended on it. Departments started aligning around the same goals without us in the room to referee it, and John and I were finally able to manage real parts of the business remotely rather than from behind our own desks.

That's the piece people often miss about delegation: don’t just hand off a task; hand off enough information for someone to be able to make the same call you'd make. Because they understand it and they know the WHY.

How are you handling the delegation in your business? Take 3 minutes to find out how you are doing in creating a business that doesn’t need you in every step. See the link to my Owner Diagnostic in the comments.

You say delegation doesn't work. I say the problem may be you.

There’s nothing wrong with you, but there is likely something wrong with the way you are delegating. I like to say that there is an ART to delegating. Delegating the right way is not a “pass and dash” approach, you know, like handing off a task to someone and then walking away.

To be successful at delegating, you need to set it up for success. That means you need to provide detailed instructions for what you want done, the necessary tools, when you want it completed, and the final outcome you're looking for. And beyond that, you need to remember to circle back and check in on the task from time to time to monitor their progress. This will also give you an opportunity to make a correction if they seem to be off track.

I've spent over 40 years building businesses. In the early years, I did not do a good job of delegating; I would get frustrated and feel like I needed to do everything myself. It wasn't that I didn't trust people. I had to learn that it wouldn’t work the way I wanted if I didn’t take the time to spell it out for the person I was delegating to.
