To end our Social Media Storm day for National Work Zone Awareness Week, we wanted to highlight a couple signs that are commonly misunderstood.

Road Closed To Thru Traffic 🚫
This sign is used to shut down areas where road work is happening, but still allow those who live/work in the area to get in and out. No, you cannot get through if you’re trying to use the road to get to a destination, unless your destination is before the road closure. Avoiding the sign and going around it will result in you having to turn around and adding more time to your route.

Fines Double 💸
This sign is used to alert drivers that their fine for a traffic violation; speeding, phone use, etc. will be doubled while in the work zone. A common misunderstanding is that workers have to be present in order for their fines to be doubled, which is false. If you violate traffic laws at any point within a work zone, workers present or not, your fines will be doubled when these signs are present.

Road signs aren’t suggestions, they are mandatory to protect not only the drivers on the road but especially those working on the road. Slow down, stay alert, put away distractions and abide by traffic signs so we all can make it home safely. 🚧

Happy National Work Zone Awareness Week! 🚧

Work Zone Awareness is important in our every day lives here at Iowa Plains and Todco. Your awareness as a driver in a work zone also allows us to do our job safely and effectively.

This week each day our company is doing something to bring light to Work Zone Safety.

Monday - Work Zone Safety Training Day 👷🏻‍♂️
On Monday our crews all over the state spent part of their day talking over safety points in work zones.

Tuesday - National Kickoff Event 🎉
We held company wide virtual bingo games throughout the day highlighting different safety items/procedures we use in our day to day work.

Wednesday - Go Orange Day 🧡
All employees were encouraged to wear orange to show our support for work zone safety! Many are pictured below.

Thursday - Social Media Storm 🌪️
Today we will be posting multiple times throughout the day to spread awareness for Work Zone Safety.

Friday - Moment of Silence 🪽
We will participate in a company wide moment of silence to remember those who have lost their life in a work zone accident.

We invite you to participate in the moment of silence tomorrow and to watch as the DOT and Iowa State Patrol will be partnering to share a view from a Des Moines metro work zone to help the public see it from the other side of the barriers. Check their social media for updates!

Slow down, stay alert, put distractions away and maintain control. We all want to make it home safe every day. 🧡

🎉 Congratulations, Rob! 🎉

We’re proud to announce Rob’s promotion to Safety Director! Rob started with IPSI back in 2006 as a laborer and, through years of hard work and dedication, has grown every step of the way.

As he transitions into this new role, Rob will wrap up his current projects while taking on key responsibilities this winter. His first focus will be leading all winter training programs to ensure our teams are prepared and safe. He’ll also play a critical role in addressing compliance challenges across our industry.
