We’re raising funds to help build safe, affordable housing for families in our area. Because housing isn’t just a structure — it’s stability. It’s opportunity. It’s the infrastructure that allows families to plan, grow, and thrive.

45. Or maybe forever 39? (I'm still holding to my assertation that birthdays during the Covid lockdown don't count, so I never turned 40).

I spent the weekend with family. We attended the city's commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. We spent the evening after munching on charcuterie and treats I baked (Dubai Nanaimo bars and key lime pound cake), and just sharing space.

The girls got home yesterday and had today off from school. I woke up to coffee and love and gifts. My husband prepared a delicious brunch for us (pesto eggs, lil smokes, strawberry suzanne, and honeydew)...

And then I had birthday activities with both of my babies. My youngest and I sat and made bracelets together and for each other. My eldest and I did an activity from the mother-daughter activity book she got me (she also gave me a journal filled with the reasons she loves me and favorite memories together 🥹).

Now, we're off to dinner together.

I feel loved. My friendship tanks have been refilled, my family tanks have been topped off. It's been quiet and love-filled, and just what I needed.

Let’s get one thing straight: taking a break doesn’t mean you’ve broken stride. In fact, stepping away might be the smartest move you make all quarter.

As strategy consultants, policymakers, and high-octane professionals, we’re trained to operate at full throttle. Meetings, metrics, memos—rinse and repeat. But the truth is, constant productivity isn’t the same as sustainable progress. Eventually, even the sharpest minds start spinning their wheels if they never come up for air.

As author and educator Joyce Sunada put it:

“If you don’t take time for your wellness, you’ll be forced to make time for your illness.”

🇺🇸✨ This 4th of July, I’m holding space for something deeper than fireworks.

Yes—celebrating freedom.

But also:
🫱🏽‍🫲🏿 Unity.
🧡 Dignity.
🌎 The belief that everyone deserves to belong.

People across this country—across every side—are struggling. But hope still lives here. So does the power to build something better.

👉🏽 True independence isn’t about going it alone.

It’s about choosing to care, to listen, and to lead with humanity.

Let’s honor that promise. Together.

🇺🇸 This 4th of July, we celebrate more than fireworks and flags.

We honor the ideal that sparked it all:
That freedom, dignity, and equality aren’t privileges to be earned—but rights that belong to everyone.

Right now, people across this country—on all sides, in all places—are struggling. And still, we rise each day hoping for something better. That hope? That’s patriotism, too.

So today, let’s remember:

True independence doesn’t mean going it alone. It means choosing to care, to listen, to build a future where every person’s worth is recognized—no matter who they are, where they come from, or how they vote.

Because the promise of this country was never about perfection.

It was about possibility.

🎆 Independence & Intentionality: A Strategist’s Take on the 4th of July 🎆

They say strategy is choosing what not to do. Well, on the 4th of July, I say it's also choosing when to put the laptop down and pick up the grilled corn—with purpose, of course.

But let’s talk about independence—not the kind involving powdered wigs and muskets (though shoutout to the Continental Congress), but the kind every leader, visionary, and strategist should be claiming daily.

“Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth.” — George Washington

Good ol’ George may not have had a five-year plan or a Gantt chart, but he understood momentum. As strategists, we know that independence isn’t just a historic milestone—it’s a mindset. It’s about designing systems that allow you to think freely, act boldly, and pivot when needed without asking for permission from outdated structures, people, or even your own limiting beliefs.

🔥 Strategic Fireworks: What the 4th Reminds Us

Declare Your Vision
The Declaration of Independence was a mission statement in 1776. They literally said, “We’re not doing this your way anymore.” You can do the same—in business, in leadership, in your inbox.

Stake Your Territory (Intentionally)
Independence without a plan? Just chaos in a powdered wig. Strategy turns rebellion into revolution. Don’t just break away—build something better.

Don’t Mistake Freedom for Aimlessness
Yes, you're free. But freedom without direction burns out fast. Think of strategy as the map that keeps your spark headed toward something meaningful—not just bouncing around like a rogue firecracker in a paper bag.

💥 Real Talk:

I see too many folks confusing chaos for creativity, or "breaking the rules" for being visionary. Honey, there’s nothing cute about a plan that can’t be explained, measured, or executed. True independence is intentional.

And let’s be honest: some of us are still negotiating with tyrants—whether it’s toxic leadership, unsustainable client expectations, or systems we know don’t serve us. This is your sign to rewrite your own declaration...

If I had a nickle for every time I tried to impart this....

When you live in a scarcity mindset, you remain trapped in numbers and stats and reportables. When you're a LEADER, you have the vision to build the team that delivers your desired outcomes because that's what they are developed and skilled and trained to do.

Trust in your team. If you can't trust your team, then you're hiring the wrong people and delivering your vision poorly.
