Leadership in the Armed Forces requires more than knowing what to do. It requires knowing how to bring out the best in the people you lead.

The Academy of Creative Coaching is proud to offer an ICF Accredited Level 1 Coach Training experience designed with Armed Forces service members in mind.

This program brings professional coaching skills into the realities of military leadership—where communication matters, trust matters, well-being matters, and developing people is essential to mission readiness and mission accomplishment.

Participants will develop a coaching mindset for warfighters and build a practical mindset, skillset, and toolset they can use to strengthen leadership, improve their ability to lead troops, support well-being, and help individuals and teams perform at their highest level.

And this training is being led by someone who understands that environment firsthand.

Dr. Jason Motes, BCC, ACC, CAPT, USN brings together three powerful areas of expertise: military service, professional coaching, and leadership development. He understands both the demands placed on military leaders and the transformative potential of coaching.

We also understand that military schedules can be complex. That’s why this virtual training experience has been intentionally structured across three Friday/Saturday weekends:

23–24 OCT 2026
20–21 NOV 2026
11–12 DEC 2026

Participants will complete 60 hours of ICF Accredited Level 1 coach education while developing skills that can serve them in the military, throughout their leadership journey, and well beyond their time in uniform.

Empathy is a start, but it is not always enough.

Early in my career, a doctoral student sat in my office and broke down in tears. I set the agenda aside, pushed a box of tissues toward her, and listened. It was the best I could do, and it was not enough. I did not have the tools to coach her through it.

That meeting sent me straight to my department chair to ask for coach certification, and it reshaped my career.

National data now shows students are hurting less and still not thriving more. Purpose, belonging, and agency remain the gap. My own research with first-generation college aspirants pointed to the same anchors more than a decade ago.

In this article, I share four research-grounded approaches any advisor, faculty member, or campus leader can use in the fifteen minutes they already have.

Caring is where help begins. Coaching is what carries it the rest of the way.
