*** The flags in front of our plaza are put up there by the city and we have no way of lowering them.

Today, is a somber day, this year being the 24th remembrance of 9/11 and of the lives lost and those living that will be forever affected. An act of foreign terrorism, because of our way of life made them angry. I do not believe it was our retaliation to the horror they set upon us, that has kept it 24 years from our shores.

As, in the years since then, we have been attacking ourselves from within. The hate and disregard for life, law and beliefs. We are destroying ourselves while those in the world who hate us sit back and gloat. We are killing each other, stealing from each other and hating our neighbors or even random people we have no connection to.

Our children are dying; people are slipping through the cracks in homelessness and mental illness; and yesterday an open attack on free speech and faith, in the murder of Charlie Kirk. He is not the first to die for his faith, nor will he be the last. However, let him be the last to be killed in a country founded on free speech and religion. It seems we have lost who we are fundamentally and are imploding.

We know that we live in a sheltered and awesome community. Soldotna is still a haven (no not perfect) from much of what the rest of our country/world is exposed to.

John and I celebrate and are grateful for our town and neighbors and pray that we stick together as a community and expend energy on keeping this a safe place to call home.
