Harvest of 2026 started August 6th and concluded on October 10th. While the final tonnage numbers from the vineyard show an extremely light year, the weight destined for the w**ery doesn’t include all of the extra work Cuadrilla put into thinning imperfect clusters leading up to the picks. In the w**ery, the lower volume allowed for an even higher attention to detail on the sorting line through fermentation. We will continue to press through next week, and the w**ery team is looking forward to a special Halloween with crush finished, which hasn’t happened in years!

While the vintage stamp will be riper, concentrated w**es; our extra efforts have imparted precise, focused and pure aromatics with a fine balance supporting plumper, voluptuous textures in the mouth! We eagerly anticipate sharing the 2026 vintage in the years to come, it should make us a lot of friends!

The night of Sunday October 4th, La Cuadrilla harvested 981 pounds from the Mother Vine. These tiny clusters should combine to make just enough w**e to fill a barrel. For the first time in 2026, we will have one barrel full of w**e from one vine.

The crew made a pass through the top of the surrounding Great Places August James Stolpman block back on September 21. We picked the fruit from the lower vines prior to tackling the 1,200 interconnected heads of mama Sunday night. The 2026 Great Places August James Syrah will likely be focused on the barrels fermented from the earlier top pick, but some riper “bottom” barrels might make it into the blend. The mother vine will certainly be differentiated as it was solely picked at the later, riper date. On the w**emaking front, the first top pick fermented 40% whole cluster while the bottom and Mama will have the fruit purity and density of 100% de stemmed fermentation.

For anyone not familiar with the Mother Vine, she started as just one lone cutting in the middle of an empty half acre hill back in early 2013. She grew three shoots, and the following winter, each shoot was tucked down a shallow trench and then trained up an adjacent post, giving three connected daughter heads to mama. We repeated the “layering” process each subsequent winter expanding her reach by creating a new generation of heads on her periphery.

In her 14th year we will finally be able to taste the expression of the Mother Vine alone, as in the past we have blended her fruit into the greater August James cuvée.

We will be sure to keep everyone posted after fermentation and hopefully, if the w**e is magic, we will have just shy of 300 bottles of Mother Vine W**e to share in the years to come!

Vinous published a 100 Point Score for 2024 Great Places Jessica Lauren Stolpman Syrah at 9am yesterday, September 24. The first 100 point w**e in Stolpman’s history! At 7pm that very evening, La Cuadrilla harvested the 2026 Jessica with high hopes of repeating the perfect score!

2024 Savagnin only 6 cases left!

Stolpman’s Jura Inspired Savagnin. Inspired by the noble Overnoy, Tissot, and Macle vineyards in the Jura region of France, we began propagating these 3 strains of special Savagnin cuttings back in 2016. In our arid Ballard Canyon conditions, the yields are tiny, combining for barely 75 cases of w**e over the past four vintages (2020-2023). While the 8 years of development have been costly, these first releases have blown the roof off our wildest white w**e dreams. Searing and bright yet concentrated, and deep, Stolpman’s Savagnin is full throttle.

Healthy winter rain, almost mirroring 2023 precipitation patterns, set us off on a relatively late bud break. The vines naturally set a lighter crop than 2023, and minimal cluster thinning was needed as the vines had already balanced themselves. Summer proved beautifully moderate and weather didn’t warm up until the second week of September. The Savagnin vines ripened their tiny clusters right on cue. La Cuadrilla swept through the 2 acre block and the w**ery team separated the free run juice from the press cuts, with only free run making the classification into the 2024 cuvee.

Lazer beam flash of lightning that fills the dark sky with light. If one had gone in for a casual sip, the intensity of the 2024 Savagnin now has your full, undivided attention!

Lemon spray over a divine creamy lemon custard with lime zest and lychee. Ruby red grapefruit and red-w**e-like graphite lend substance and depth. The powerful w**e lingers forever, almost gaining richness, despite the high-toned, high-acid, pure driving energy. Amazing in a head scratching way.
