Goodnight, vines. 💤 What is happening in the vineyard now? Now that the hustle and bustle of harvest is over, and the vines have had some time to show off their gorgeous fall colors, it comes time for the vines to hunker down for the winter. The leaves drop in a process called senescence, and the vines essentially go to sleep; using small amounts of energy and carbohydrate reserves that were collected exactly for this moment, earlier in the year (grapevines like to plan ahead 😉). The vines rest for a while, having done their yearly job, and wait for pruning later in the season.
