Can you see the difference in the picture? đ On the left, the wool panel is fresh out of the box and hasnât been adjusted yet. On the right, Iâve adjusted the panel to improve weight distribution by flattening it out.
When I work on wool-flocked saddles for the first time, theyâre often over-flocked. A lot of people believe that more wool equals more comfort for the horse, but actually, itâs the opposite. When the panel is too full (like the one on the left), it forms a round shape that doesnât distribute the weight evenly. The middle of the panel makes contact first, which can create pressure points, destabilize your saddle, and make you feel disconnected from your horse. By adjusting the flocking and flattening it out, the panel becomes much softer which helps spread the weight evenly across the entire panel, making for a more comfortable ride for you and your horse. đ´â¨
Comment below if you see the difference between the two panels!!
