⚡🍎 Juneteenth 2026 Educator Toolkit: Strategies for Foundational Black American Children

As we prepare for a new school year, LeAja Consulting is sharing practical, research-based strategies educators can implement on Day 1 to create classrooms where Foundational Black American children feel valued, challenged, and inspired to learn.

🔹 Strategy #5: Teacher Energy Matters

One of the most overlooked factors in student success is the energy, presence, and enthusiasm educators bring into the classroom each day.

Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu reminds us:

“Teach on your feet, not in your seat. Children need energetic, healthy teachers.”

Students are constantly reading the adults around them. They notice our excitement, our consistency, our engagement, and our belief in their potential.

When educators bring positive energy into the classroom, they:
✅ Increase student engagement
✅ Strengthen relationships
✅ Create a culture of belonging
✅ Encourage academic risk-taking
✅ Set the tone for learning and achievement

As you prepare for Day 1, ask yourself:

What energy will my students experience when they walk through my classroom door?

The first lesson students learn is not from a textbook—it comes from the adults who greet them each day.

Bring your best self. Build meaningful relationships. Create a classroom where every child knows they belong and can succeed.

Because teacher energy matters.

⭕📚 Juneteenth 2026 Educator Toolkit: Strategies for Foundational Black American Children

As we continue preparing for the upcoming school year, LeAja Consulting is sharing practical strategies educators can implement on Day 1 to create classrooms where students feel seen, valued, and connected.

🔹 Strategy #4: Restorative Justice Practices Begin with the Environment

Before a lesson is taught, before a standard is introduced, and before a behavior issue arises, students are already receiving messages from the way a classroom is designed.

Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu encourages educators to consider a simple but powerful shift:

“If at all possible, have all of your chairs in a circle. There is excellent research on the value of a circle. Facilitators operate best in a circle.”

Why a circle?

⭕ Everyone can be seen and heard.
⭕ Students become participants, not spectators.
⭕ Community is prioritized over compliance.
⭕ Relationships become the foundation for learning.
⭕ Restorative conversations happen naturally.

Too often, classrooms are designed to manage students. What if we designed them to connect students?

As you prepare your classroom for the first day of school, consider how your physical environment communicates belonging, respect, and shared responsibility.

A simple change in seating can create a powerful change in culture.

Build community. Sit in a circle. Change lives.

📚☎️ Juneteenth 2026 Educator Toolkit: Strategies for Foundational Black American Children

The countdown to a new school year has begun, and at LeAja Consulting, we believe that strong schools are built on strong relationships.

This week, we will be sharing practical, research-based strategies educators can implement on Day 1 to create welcoming, affirming, and successful learning environments for Foundational Black American children.

🔹 Strategy #3: Good News Counts Too!

One of the most powerful ways to build trust with families is simple: call home with good news.

Too often, families hear from schools only when there is a problem. Imagine the impact of a phone call celebrating a student’s kindness, effort, leadership, improvement, or achievement.

As Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu reminds us:

“Call parents with good news. Many parents say the only time they hear from the school is when something negative has taken place with their child.”

When educators intentionally communicate strengths, they:
✅ Build trust with families
✅ Strengthen school-home partnerships
✅ Increase student confidence
✅ Create a culture of belonging
✅ Establish positive relationships before challenges arise

As you prepare for the upcoming school year, consider making a commitment to contact at least one family each week with positive news about their child.

Relationships matter. Families matter. Our children matter.

Let’s start the year strong and make Day 1 count.

📚✊🏾 Juneteenth 2026 Educator Toolkit: Strategies for Foundational Black American Children

As educators prepare to welcome students back to school, the first days matter. The expectations we communicate, the relationships we build, and the beliefs we hold about our students can shape an entire school year.

This week, LeAja Consulting will be sharing a series of research-based strategies that educators can implement on Day 1 of the upcoming school year to better engage, support, and empower Foundational Black American children.

🔹 Strategy #2: Hold High Expectations

Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu reminds us:

“After all is said and done, whatever you see in the child is what you’ll produce out of the child. You have to like children to teach them. You have to like African-American children.”

Students often rise—or fall—to the expectations placed before them. High expectations paired with authentic relationships, cultural affirmation, and intentional support create environments where children can thrive.

Throughout the week, we’ll share practical tools, reflective questions, and actionable strategies for educators committed to excellence and equity.

Let’s start the year strong. Let’s make Day 1 count.

📚✊🏾 Juneteenth 2026 Educator Toolkit: Strategies for Foundational Black American Children

As we prepare for a new school year, one thing is clear: students don’t rise to low expectations—they rise to meaningful relationships, culturally responsive teaching, and educators who believe in their potential.

This week, LeAja Consulting will launch a series of practical, research-based strategies educators can begin implementing on Day 1 of the upcoming school year to better support and engage Foundational Black American children.

Each strategy will provide actionable steps for:
✅ Building trust and belonging
✅ Increasing student engagement
✅ Creating culturally affirming learning environments
✅ Strengthening academic achievement
✅ Developing positive relationships with students and families

Our first strategy is inspired by Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu’s work and challenges educators to rethink their role:

“Teachers must see themselves not just as educators, but as salespeople and marketers promoting a product called education.”

If we want students to buy into learning, we must first make learning worth investing in.

Join us throughout the week as we share tools, insights, and practical approaches designed to help educators start the year strong and create classrooms where every child can thrive.

Stop 🛑 the Erasure of Black 👩🏾‍🏫 Teachers

Eradicate Anti-Blackness❗️❗️❗️

“Imagine how free we could be as educators if we had more say in the curriculum, how we teach, and assess our students. One curriculum or assessment doesn't fit all, ” one educator dreamed (LBEF, 2025).
