Yesterday, I hosted an end-of-year mentoring dinner with some of my Bethune-Cookman University mentees.

Moments like this matter because they bring to life one of my fraternity’s core mentoring principles: “Go to High School – Go to College.” It’s not just a statement, it’s a pathway. That’s why I also invited my elementary school mentee, Bryce, a 9-year-old third grader, to participate with us. Exposure creates vision, and vision drives direction.

We closed the evening in prayer, covering our mentees, graduating seniors, their summer break, and a safe return for the fall semester.

One of our graduating seniors has career goals in law enforcement, and I appreciate my friends and fraternity brothers, Trekelle Perkins, Deputy Chief of Sanford PD and Benyamin Yisrael, Captain of Volusia Sheriffs Office, for showing up and answering the call. This shows mentorship in action.

He shared that leadership begins with leading in your own life first; understanding what you need, taking ownership, and then advocating for it.

He ended with one of his favorite scriptures: “Write the vision and make it plain.” Vision is essential, because before you can lead others, you must first know where you are going.

I presented to the young men of the King Solomon Foundation, Inc. mentoring program.

We engaged in an animated activity and discussion on navigating land mines while managing all of the voices in the crowd, understanding that some voices can be fatal to your future.

The lesson was clear: discernment matters, and choosing the right or wrong voices can change the direction of your life.

Today I served as the presenter for College’s Entrepreneurial Education and Training Experience.

Since I Love Making My Own Money, I really enjoyed conversing with students about ways to generate revenue, grow their brand, and use the skills in their hands. As a result students left with fresh ideas on expansion, marketing strategies, increasing revenue, and turning potential into profit.

I am excited to support the college’s entrepreneurship initiatives and pour into the next generation of business leaders.

I stopped by yesterday to share with the young ladies participating in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.’s mentoring program.

I encouraged them to advocate for themselves, communicate what they need to be successful, and take full advantage of the network and resources available to them.

It also serves as a reminder to all of us: once we become established, we must be intentional about reaching back to help someone else rise.

Today facilitated a joint discussion with the Brevard Apa Alphas Sphinx Academy and Jack and Jill mentoring programs on mental health and navigating high-risk/stressful situations.

Our teens each face unique challenges, yet navigating school life, friendships, grades, pressures, and expectations continues to be an area where guidance and support are essential.

It is imperative that we pour into their mental health while equipping them with the tools to manage stress, make sound decisions, and thrive under pressure.

Yesterday, Dr. Chester Wilson volunteered with the Little Men of Tomorrow, facilitating a discussion on Etiquette and Grooming.

As much as he was teaching them, they were teaching him. Their energy, confidence, and enthusiasm were unmatched.

Thank you to the men of the community who showed up to mentor, encourage, and invest in these young scholars. The future is bright.

Today we facilitated Mental Health and Diversity training for the 9th New Recruit Class of the Volusia Sheriff's Office.

Thank you Sheriff Mike Chitwood for selecting us to provide training to each new recruit class. Not because it is part of the academy schedule, but because you think it is important to include it. Investing in education, awareness, and understanding helps build stronger officers and stronger communities.
