Maine Custom Woodlands Maine Custom Woodlands is a timber harvesting, forest management and excavation company based in Southern Maine.

Maine Custom Woodlands is a full service forest management company focusing on comprehensive forest management. Full service means a Maine Custom Woodlands employee takes care of everything from start to finish. We have Professional Licensed foresters on staff, two fully mechanical whole-tree woods crews, all of our own trucks, as well as a close-out crew. Doing everything "in house" allows us to

provide our landowners with better services and better stumpage prices. We are Master Logger Certified (a 3rd party certification) which holds us to a higher standard of logging than what the minimum requirements are. As part of our certification, we come back in with a close-out crew. Close-out consists of smoothing up trails and neatening up the yard (where the trees that are harvested are processed). Our whole tree method of harvesting allows us to capture the entire value of the trees that are harvested as well as drastically reducing the amount of slash (limbs and tops) left behind.

A huge thank you to PLC Board Member Joe Cushman of Maine Custom Woodlands for testifying at the Maine Legislature in Augusta yesterday! Joe spoke in support of LD 2094, An Act to Authorize a General Fund Bond Issue to Support Maine’s Agricultural and Forestry Sectors—a first-of-its-kind initiative that could be a gamechanger for our industry.

Why does this matter? Right now, interest rates for equipment are hovering around 7%. This bond could help create a low-interest loan program for logging equipment with interest rates at 2% or less., That’s a massive difference when you’re looking to upgrade your rigging or growing your business. This bond shows a real understanding of the challenges loggers face today.
