In today’s world, many people choose to donate money rather than invest their time in volunteering. Yet, time spent helping others has profound benefits for both individuals and communities. Volunteering promotes better health—reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, and improving mental well-being. What if we could recognize this value with a tax credit for volunteer hours, just as we currently reward financial donations? A tax credit would not only incentivize more people to give their time, but it would also reinforce the importance of community and collective action.

In a society where individualism often dominates, volunteering offers an opportunity to reconnect with others and strengthen social bonds. It’s a way to create purpose and contribute to causes larger than ourselves. By offering a tax incentive for volunteerism, we could shift the focus from me to we, encouraging more people to get involved and invest in their communities. This is particularly crucial in a world where many feel disconnected or overwhelmed by the challenges we face.

Let’s push for a world where community service is recognized and rewarded. A tax credit for volunteer hours would validate the time people give, making it easier to contribute while also providing personal rewards. It’s time to incentivize volunteerism and foster a culture of giving that benefits everyone, now and in the future.

Appreciate the SHOUT OUT and continued support of the Tahoe Chamber and my wonderful community of strong women leaders, to take our Tahoe-based "Women in Leadership" program to continued new heights!

Founder of ‘Women in Leadership’, Andrea has been instrumental in recognizing the value of our local women leaders, championing their worth, and providing recognition and professional development to further nurture their abilities. She did this all while managing her own business and a family of 3 children at elementary school. Andrea has raised the profile of local women leaders and provided a platform for support, connection and growth. She also is a mom of 3, and is a full time CPA for her own company.
