From skills to qualifications. From qualifications to opportunities. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

15 participants, including three women, have successfully completed a two-week Lifeguard and Pool Management Training in Kumasi under the Ghana2Germany initiative, a partnership between GIZ Ghanaโ€™s Promoting Sustainable Migration, Decent Work and Professional Qualifications (MiWorQ) Programme and Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana - AHK Ghana.

Delivered by the Ghana Lifesaving and Diving Association (GHALDA), the training combined theoretical learning, practical exercises and assessments aligned with International Life Saving Federation (ILS) standards. Participants gained skills in drowning prevention, rescue techniques, first aid, resuscitation, pool safety and management.

But this was about more than learning to be a lifeguard. It was about developing market-relevant skills that can open doors to decent work and professional opportunities in Ghana and beyond.

By investing in technical skills and professional qualifications, MiWorQ and AHK Ghana are helping strengthen employment prospects at home while supporting pathways for safe, regular and skills-based labour mobility to Germany.

The participation of three women also underscores the importance of expanding access to technical training, professional qualifications and emerging labour market opportunities for women.

What if financing migration today could build financial security for tomorrow?

That was the big question at the Migration Finance Roundtable, convened by GIZ Ghanaโ€™s Promoting Sustainable Migration, Decent Work and Professional Qualifications (MiWorQ) Programme and the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) in September.

Participants explored how financing can support regular labour migration, particularly for Ghanaian TVET graduates from training and certification to the upfront costs of migration.

But the opportunity goes beyond getting migrants across the starting line. Itโ€™s about building lasting financial relationships through savings, payments, investments, remittances and more.

The next step is turning these ideas into practical, sustainable financing models that work for migrants, banks and the wider migration ecosystem.

A day of skills, connections and opportunities!

The Ghana Career and Migration Fair 2026 brought together young people, employers, skills development institutions and partners in Takoradi for a day of learning, networking and discovering new possibilities.

From TVET and career guidance to job opportunities and safe migration pathways, the fair created a space for young people to connect with the information, skills and people they need to take their next step.

Employers met potential talent. Young people explored skills and career pathways. Opportunities crossed borders. Connections were made.

And the message was clear: when you have the right skills, opportunities know no borders.

Opening doors through language ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ

Ahead of the Ghana Career and Migration Fair 2026, the German Development Cooperation, in partnership with Takoradi Technical University - TTU the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Ghana), Social Entrepreneurship Hub - Ghana, Auslandsgesellschaft e.V. Dortmund and telc, opened a new German Language Centre at the University.

The centre brings German language training and recognised certification closer to students, professionals and aspiring migrants in the Western Region, helping them prepare for opportunities in education, skills development and regular labour migration to Germany.

From language skills to international opportunities, we are building bridges that connect skills, people and possibilities.
