With support from the German Development Cooperation through the Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, Migration and Development (GEC), the IOM Ghana brought together representatives from the Labour Department Ghana and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana for a two-day capacity-building training aimed at strengthening protection mechanisms for labour migrants.

The training introduced participants to the National Complaints Mechanism, a one-stop platform that enables labour migrants within and outside Ghana to report employment-related concerns, seek assistance, and access redress services.

Participants also enhanced their knowledge and skills in Psychological First Aid (PFA), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and the identification, referral, and protection of vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking and smuggled migrants.

By strengthening the capacity of key institutions and fostering collaboration among stakeholders, this initiative contributes to safer, more responsive, and rights-based labour migration governance in Ghana.

Strengthening partnerships for skills development and decent work opportunities! ๐Ÿคโœจ

On 20 May 2026, the Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service, Dr. Eric Kofi Adzroe, welcomed the Promoting Sustainable Migration, Decent Work and Professional Qualifications (MiWorQ) team, led by Head of Programme Andreas Berding, to the Ghana TVET Service headquarters in Accra for a productive working visit.

The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce the MiWorQ project and explore how both institutions can collaborate to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana.

Discussions focused on expanding TVET pathways, scaling up the MiWorQ pilot programme to reach more institutions, and advancing German language training to support international labour mobility opportunities for TVET graduates.

Together, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to equipping young people with relevant, in-demand skills, enhancing their employability, and creating pathways to decent work both in Ghana and abroad.

By fostering strong partnerships and collaboration, we can empower the next generation with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities they need to succeed in an evolving world of work.

Study in Europe desk focal persons from universities across Ghana came together in Accra for a four-day capacity-building workshop on Erasmus+ opportunities and actions.

The workshop equipped participants with practical knowledge on programmes such as International Credit Mobility, Erasmus Mundus, Capacity Building in Higher Education, and Jean Monnet Actions. Through presentations, discussions, and interactive exercises, participants strengthened their ability to guide students, staff, and institutions in accessing international education and exchange opportunities.

The workshop also provided an opportunity for networking, sharing experiences, and building stronger partnerships among Ghana's higher education institutions.

This event is part of the EU-Germany-Ghana Joint Action on Jobs, Migration and Development (JMD)'s efforts to promote Europe as an attractive destination for higher education. JMD is an initiative of the Bundesministerium fรผr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), co-funded by the European Union in Ghana and implemented by GIZ Ghana in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment - Ghana.
