Happy to join dozens of other professionals today at the Nathan Hale High School - WAWM Career Fair, sharing information about opportunities in communications. My career arc hasn’t been an arc at all — journalism, corporate communications, agency work, launching my own firm, with some local politics and basketball coaching along the way — but the common theme is a love of storytelling. The good news for the next generation: Many of them are already content creators. My hope: They hone those skills and use them for good — shaping in a positive way an industry going through some incredible change.

Building community, for Cream Skills Inc. and Mount Mary University Women's Basketball. Proud to support this event and bring together these two important parts of my life with a terrific event.

It was an honor to help deliver the latest event for Mobilise, an organization I’m excited to continue to work with as they bring the community together to advance multimodal transportation across the region. One thing I love about leading my own firm is I get to choose the clients I work for and with — partnering with those whose missions I am passionate about. That came to life this morning at beautiful Nō Studios. And I got a chance to reconnect with a few friends from my mayoral days too. 🙂

Thanks to co-sponsors TDA Wisconsin and Wisconsin Bike Fed, too!

A florist, two bakers (for human and dog treats), a tattoo artist, art gallery and gift shop owners, several restaurateurs (brick and mortar and food trucks), a masseuse, even a politician or two. And me, a humble communications consultant.

Seeing the energy in the room at last night’s Growing South Milwaukee small business mixer made me so excited for the future of this city, and so proud to be a small business owner in this town.

Promising future, indeed. It starts now.

Honored to sponsor and speak at today’s South Suburban Chamber breakfast today, sharing insights around communications and community building for small businesses and nonprofits. I was excited to build on my relationship with the chamber, which is doing some great work in energizing the local business community. And it was really cool to hear (unsolicited) positive feedback about the work I’m doing with some of my clients, like the Saber Center for the Performing Arts, Skyline Catering & Express Deli, and Lakeview Coaching.

We are just getting started. Let’s connect — and tell your story, together.

Building community -- that's what my relaunched and reinvigorated firm is all about. And I'm proud to say we're off to a really strong start, with a growing list of clients who recognize the importance of strategic storytelling through clear, compelling and consistent messaging across platforms.

In short, everything communicates.

And it's been quite a couple of months! From helping launch Lakeview Coaching, a small business led by a small business owner with a big heart and real passion for running and cycling (and his community); to lifting up Moran's Pub, and its truly special events and dynamic owner, James Moran; to starting the process of reintroducing the Saber Center for the Performing Arts in Franklin to the community during its 10th anniversary year; to making big plans with Skyline Catering to better tell its story of high-quality food, top-notch service and affordable prices to audiences new and old; to helping local governments share with their communities the challenge of funding services in these times; to lifting up nonprofit clients like Mobilise, Cream Skills Inc. and the The Bridger and Essex Grebe Fund ... we are breaking through and making a real difference, and I love it.

Let's build your community, together. Let's get to work!

The South Milwaukee community celebrates the final out of a College World Series title for a special young man, his team and his family. Well done, Nate Snead! I was proud to be a small part of the joy, from 500 miles away.

This is the “community” in Brooks Communications + Community. Thanks, Moran's Pub, for hosting the College World Series Volunteers Viewing Party. What a fun night! Attendance was great and the energy in the pub was even greater.

The game outcome wasn’t what we wanted, but this event was about bringing a community together to lift up a young man who is making history in Omaha.

Game two is Sunday. Need a win.
