Since its opening season in 1997, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark has attracted nearly 8 million patrons. The Arts Center's array of 400 unique events each season serves more than a dozen nationalities and ethnicities. Performers who have appeared recently in the acoustically superb 2,800-seat Prudential Hall include Joshua Bell, El Gran Combo, Aretha Franklin, Audra McDonald, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Bonnie Raitt, the Royal Philharmonic, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Stephen Colbert in conversation with Jimmy Fallon, among many others.
Each season, NJPAC's Arts Education Department engages more than 60,000 public school children via arts learning initiatives in schools, in our conservatory, and on our stages. The Arts Center has established itself as a home for broadcast by networks including BET, HBO, Comedy Central, PBS and NBC. NJPAC provides regular forums for convening New Jersey’s citizenry to discuss significant issues of the day and “symbolizes Newark’s cultural renaissance” (Forbes magazine).
The pioneering role NJPAC has taken in the redevelopment of the city’s downtown will be evidenced this Fall with the groundbreaking for One Theater Square, a 21-story, mixed-use residential building on our campus.
Position Summary:
The Program Manager for In-School Programs is responsible for the implementation and management of a variety of In-School programs including, but not limited to, artist-in-residencies a nd all related activities in conjunction with the In-Schools team. Although the Program Manager for In-School Programs (Dance Concentration) will focus on the discipline of dance, they must also be familiar with the disciplines of theater, music, early learning, and current arts education initiatives because each member of the in-school program staff must work on all programs. These in-school arts education programs are developed for the children of New Jersey’s schools, day care centers, and community-based organizations. NJPAC’s residency packages vary in structure include classroom instruction and implementation of program curriculum. Residencies may also include the following components: professional development, field trips to NJPAC performances, family workshops, and culminating performances. The Program Manager facilitates all activities that are essential to the successful implementation of these programs in schools and community-based organizations across the state of New Jersey.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Subject to the policies and management direction established by the Director of In-School Programs, the duties of the Program Manager for In-School Programs shall include:
• Assign and manage appropriate teaching artists to residencies
• Follow up with teaching artists on lesson plans, reflections, and final reports and provide them with feedback and support as necessary
• Observe and evaluate teaching artists in the classroom

• Develop curriculum materials for residency programs, alongside the Director of In-School Programs
• Ensure that residencies are following NJPAC Arts Education guidelines
• Create a collaborative environment within the school between the administrators, teachers, teaching artists, students, and families
• Work with artists and schools to facilitate scheduling and logistics in a timely manner
• Facilitate planning meetings, site visits, and all Arts Jam! and Family Workshop events at assigned schools
• Generate and distribute materials for residency programs.
• Conduct, collect and distribute post-residency evaluations to assigned schools
• Analyze results of evaluation and assessment, recommend and implement program changes in response to the findings
Qualifications and Special Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in the arts or arts-related field required. A degree in
Dance or Dance Education preferred. Masters Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience with implementation of performing arts programs and/or events for an arts center, presenting organization, or school.
• Reliable transportation (i.e. car) for daily travel to schools throughout New Jersey is required.
• Teaching experience in a classroom and/or as a teaching artist strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with the field of arts education, specifically dance education, related to the schools and communities of New Jersey preferred.
• Must be familiar with urban education and/or have experience working in urban school settings.
• Must demonstrate a passion for learning; a commitment to inspire young people and the adults who influence them through Arts Education; and a commitment to address the ethnic diversity of New Jersey’s population.
• Must be detail orientated, organized, and flexible.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Must have ability to multi-task, collaborate with other staff members, and work well in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.
• Some evening and weekend hours required.
• Sense of humor and a positive attitude a plus.

POSITION TITLE: General Manager
DEPARTMENT: Administration
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Manages operations, finance, human resources, licensing, artistic planning, and touring for a $6.5M contemporary dance institution; Negotiates and manages dancer and crew contracts, domestic and international touring engagements, and choreographic licenses for an 18-member professional company and a 6-member training company; Develops and oversees institutional budgets and financial operations, including treasury management and payroll; Manages the Human Resources function/processes for the institution and oversees facilities.
Responsibilities:
Performances
Works with agent to develop major residencies for both performing ensembles
Manages local performance collaborations including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Art Institute of Chicago
Primary liaison between Hubbard Street and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance
Leads long-range planning for performance, rehearsal and touring schedules for both ensembles
Artists and Repertoire
In coordination with Artistic Director, manages repertoire acquisitions and licenses to meet long-range artistic goals
Oversees licensing and contracts with choreographers and/or their managers
Negotiates agreements and compensation with Hubbard Street and HS2 dancers
Coordinates visas for foreign artists, including dancers, choreographers, designers and assistants
Finance and Budget
Works with Executive Director to develop institutional strategic plan, aligning financial resources to achieve strategic goals while ensuring strong fiscal management
Manages the long-term and annual budgeting process for the institution and oversees quarterly reforecast
In coordination with the Artistic Director, Company Manager and Director of Production, develops and manages artistic and production budgets for performances and repertoire
Works with External Affairs to maximize institutional revenue
Administration
Manages Human Resources function for the institution, including hiring, benefits, evaluation, organizational structure and compliance
Primary Hubbard Street liaison to IATSE, negotiating collective bargaining agreement and ongoing relationship
Supervises Senior Manager of Finance, Company Manager, and Manager of Artistic Operations
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree required, master’s degree preferred. Candidates must have worked in the field of arts administration for a minimum of five years, preferably in dance. Candidates must be organized, diplomatic, and self-directed. The General Manager must have excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrate a proven ability to interact with a variety of internal and external constituents. Computer literacy, supervisory experience and budget management skills are essential.
