There are people taking meds to get through the day. It's not a joke so please don't downplay it.

Dear ADHD Leader, why do you keep firing your Executive Assistant (EA)?

Let me guess. You've hired a few EAs. Some were nice. A few were disasters. But none truly got you. You always seem to send them packing.

You don't need just a "smart" EA. You need someone trained to anticipate chaos, redirect energy and focus, and act without waiting.

I can also guess that most hiring advice you've received was neurotypical and generic. The problem with that is that it doesn't work for everyone, especially not you. You need a system built FOR ADHD brains- not AROUND them.

It's time to find you an EA who will stay (or one you'll want to keep around), adapt and thrive.

As an EA for over a decade for ADHD Leaders, I want to share with you some traits necessary for you to look for BEFORE hiring your next EA. You can also use it to see if your current EA has any of the traits. lol

The same way we've learned to play it safe, we can also learn how to take risk.

It requires BIG FAITH to do something BIG.

Let's just JUMP!

Screw the 9to5, they said......

This is ALL I heard when I began my entrepreneurship journey back in 2010.

Everyone on the internet was telling you to become your own boss.

I quickly found that becoming a BOSS was no easy task. It's a lot of hard work, blood, sweat, tears, sleepless nights, isolation, 80 hr weeks, etc.

Although the phrase, "Screw the 9to5" has always been in my head, it's the Substitute Teaching position that has held me down as I built my business on the side.

Testimony: Every school building I enter, they either want me at their school longterm or want me to become certified to teach there fulltime. Every time I decline with a smile, knowing that I Sub for one reason and one reason only. That's to make money while building and when the business has its ebbs and flows/peaks and valleys. Every business has them. PLUS, subbing gives flexibility (work when I want), summers, days off with my kids, etc.

Well, this is the time to go ALL out. THIS summer is the season to take it up a notch. It's time to screw the 9to5 to truly make it the side hustle or get rid of it altogether and allow my business to become the primary.

Can you help to spread the word?

You came across this feed just so you can share with any ADHD Leader struggling to find the right Assistant to work with them. Tell them you found someone that has worked with ADHD Leaders for the past 12 yrs and can help them to screen and train their next Assistant or their current one. Also, someone who is training Assistants to work with ADHD Leaders.

I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Signed,

Knowing Your Craft!

When you have a specialty or know your craft, it's ALWAYS on. Whether you know or realize it or not.

So I started watching Forever on Netflix the other day with my husband. A few episodes in, I said to my mom and sisters in our group chat, "I'm waiting for it to be confirmed but I believe Justin has ADHD".

What did I see to make me point that out so early, within like the 1st 2 episodes?
1. He received extra time on his test.
2. Caught feelings really quickly.
3. No filter. Just said the 1st thing that came to his mind.
4. Difficulty focusing
5. Overlooking the details, especially when you KNOW your Mom is going to ask who? what? when? where? and why?

Mom: You done diagnosed him already?
Me: Yup!

It took us 2 days to binge watch it. By the 6th episode, I yelled out, "I was right. I'm good". There was so much more to touch on but I'll talk about in a different post. Just in case you haven't watch it yet.

My point is, KNOW YOUR CRAFT. Working with ADHD professionals for so long, I do NOT need a diagnosis or a disclosure that you have ADHD to work with you. A diagnosis means absolutely NOTHING to me. I provide solutions for the symptoms presented. Knowing what to look for and providing solutions or administrative treatment for those symptoms are a superpower.

In today's political climate, getting rid of DEI initiatives is a grave mistake. However, individual ADHDers can get help for themselves where ever possible. Training your Executive Assistant to work with you, your brain and recognizing the symptoms to administratively treat symptoms are IN. Go for it.

What else did you pick up on while watching, Forever?

Pic sent to me from my sister as a confirmation. List or templates ALWAYS helps.

All Executive Assistants (EAs) weren't created equal.

Grant it, there are Assistants in the world great at what they do, administratively. Are they good with providing support for the ADHD brain?

If they don't have experience or haven't been trained, then the clear answer is NO.

An EA that provides ADHD support is key to helping unlock your FULL potential. They have traits that no one else has. Therefore, they become indispensable.

You deserve the best. It's time you get it.

You don't outgrow ADHD. You learn how to live with it. When you figure out how your brain works, you work with it and not against it.
