The overuse of "work with your brain and not against" is 🤯. What does it actually mean though? I just needed to address it.

Everyone keeps telling ADHD business owners to "work with your brain and not against it."

Okay...
But what does that actually mean?

I've heard this advice for years, and while I agree with the intention, I think it's incomplete because before you can work with your brain you FIRST have to understand how your brain is experiencing the problem.

➡️ If marketing feels impossible, why?
➡️ If delegating feels overwhelming, why?
➡️ If you keep buying productivity tools that work for a week and then stop, why?

Most people answer those questions with surface-level explanations:
"I'm procrastinating."
"I need more discipline."
"I just need a better system."

But those aren't root causes. They're symptoms.

I personally don't start by asking, "What planner do you use?" or "Which app keeps you organized?"

I start by asking questions that uncover where the friction begins because once you identify the source of the cognitive friction, the solution becomes much more obvious.

Sometimes the problem isn't time management.
It's decision overload.

Sometimes it isn't motivation.
It's uncertainty.

Sometimes it isn't executive dysfunction.
It's a workflow that asks your brain to process information in a way that doesn't match how you naturally think.

That's why 2 people with ADHD can struggle with the same task for completely different reasons AND it's why copying someone else's system often fails.

Working with your brain doesn't start with building a system. It starts with understanding the brain the system is supposed to support.

That's the work I do.
Not creating more tools. Oh God no.

Diagnosing the invisible friction that's keeping the right tools from working in the first place.

I'm curious...
What's one piece of ADHD advice that sounds great in theory but has never really worked for you?
