Have you herd? Things go udderly awry in the middle of July each year during Cow Appreciation Day. Every July we celebrate these amazing animals, but did you know that "COWS" also have another meaning?
The COWS meeting method is a simple framework designed to make meetings more effective, focused, and action-oriented. It's an acronym that stands for:
C – Challenges
Start by discussing the challenges people are facing. This could be project roadblocks, workload issues, or anything slowing progress.
Purpose: Identify obstacles early so the team can collaborate on solutions.
O – Opportunities
Share opportunities the team or individuals see. This might be a chance to improve a process, win new business, innovate, or develop skills.
Purpose: Encourage proactive thinking and growth-minded discussions.
W – Wins
Celebrate recent wins, both big and small. This could be closing a sale, completing a project, or a team member going above and beyond.
Purpose: Build momentum, boost morale, and reinforce what’s working.
S – Support
Ask where people need support—whether it’s resources, guidance, or help from a teammate.
Purpose: Promote collaboration and ensure people aren’t stuck or feeling isolated.
Why it works:
Simple and repeatable: Easy to remember and apply in regular team check-ins.
Balanced focus: Covers both problems and successes, creating a healthy team dynamic.
Actionable: Makes it clear who needs what and what’s working.
How did you celebrate yesterday?
