Hydro Engineering was brought in to help a mining customer address several environmental challenges and make improvements to better align their facility with their environmental goals.
The mine had an existing tailings pond that was in poor condition and needed to be addressed. They were looking at several alternatives, including repairing, rebuilding, or upgrading the existing pond. Hydro Engineering was able to provide an alternative solution that eliminated the need for a pond and saved them the expense of repairing or maintaining that pond moving forward.
Our solution allows water from their shop and wash bay to collect in an in-ground collection tank. Solids are automatically removed from the collected water, and the clarified water is pumped from the clearwell through a filtration system. The treated water can then be reused in the wash bay, significantly reducing the amount of fresh water required.
At the same time, the mine’s existing wash bay had been out of commission for several years. Hydro Engineering worked with the mine to refurbish the existing wash equipment and integrate it with the new wash equipment, water collection, and filtration system.
This project is another great example of the versatility and expertise of Hydro Engineering and our products. Rather than simply replacing an existing system or rebuilding the tailings pond, we were able to develop a solution that addressed multiple challenges at the same time.
The result was significant cost savings for the customer, while also making a substantial environmental impact through water conservation, wastewater management, and the reuse of treated water.
