South Weber crews were called for mutual aid on this tragic fire in Riverdale UT. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family impacted by these unimaginable circumstances.

We also want to commemnd the phenomenal efforts exhibited by all of the Fire and Police resources involved.

These types of events (thankfully) are few and far between. But when they occur.

It's a great time to remind our residents of some simple measures you can take in your own homes to help with the best outcomes if ever faced with a house fire:
- Regularly tested and operating smoke detectors
- Keep bedroom doors closed at night
- Maintained and accessable fire extinguishers
- Home/Family evacuation plans that are practiced with children in the home that define safe meeting places
(EDITH) evacuation drills in the home is a great Google search for examples of these drills.

🚨 TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDER 🚨

Our crews have responded to two separate motor vehicle accidents in the past 24 hours.

The first incident involved minor injuries, while the second resulted in serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

These incidents are a reminder that a few seconds of distraction or impaired judgment can have serious consequences.

The is 100% contained as of 6pm today. The final acreage is 145.

The majority of the resources have been released. However, some firefighters will remain to patrol and monitor for a few days through the next heat wave to watch for and work internal hotspots. There are still areas of heat within the interior of the fire area. The area remains closed, and public is asked to stay out of the area for their own safety.

There are no more closures of lanes or shoulders along I-84. Cause is still being investigated.

Fire managers want to thank the interagency response and public for their help and support through this fire. We realize it had a high impact to the public and we're grateful for the cooperation to keep public and firefighters safe.

Tuesday morning update.
Containment percentage remains at 50%, crews are still actively working on increasing the containment percentage.

Due to rough terrain and elevations it's contributed to the complexity of extinguishing the remaining area's of the fire.
This remains an active incident, many crews are still engaged.

As a reminder, please do not call 911 to report this fire.

Also please stay aware and diligent as you drive through the areas of Highway 89 and Interstate 84. Do not stop on roadways as this leads to hazardous conditions for our fire crew's, and fellow motorist.

South Weber City, UT, South Weber Fire Department, Davis County Sheriff's Office, South Weber Neighborhood, South Weber Community

The in Weber Canyon is still 50% contained and remains 134 acres. While the fire isn't growing, there's still a great amount of heat in the larger fuels on the top of the mountain and along the edge on the north and east sides.

Overnight, the cooler temperatures provided some much needed relief. With the increased humidity, the night shift observed decreased visible flames. However, crews are still waking up to smoke on the mountain that heats up more throughout the day.

The terrain is proving difficult, as access to get to the heat is very steep and rocky. Crews are being deliberate with their paths to get to the fire, as safely as possible. Containment will be slow over the next few shifts as they hike in to work these hotspots.

While I-84 has both lanes open in each direction, please be cautious when traveling through the canyon. There is still fire equipment and firefighters parked and working directly along the highway. Please help keep them safe.

Morning update:
Crews got another early start today and will be working throughout the day to monitor and put out hotspots.
Containment remains at 50%

Some have asked what containment actually means:

"When a wildfire report provides containment counts (usually expressed as a percentage, like "45% contained"), it indicates how much of the fire's perimeter has been secured to prevent it from spreading further. It does not mean that 45% of the fire is extinguished or put out. Instead, it means that a combination of natural barriers (like rivers or roads) and man-made fire lines (clearings dug down to bare mineral soil) are successfully blocking the fire's path along that portion of the edge."

Crews focus today will be fortifying already established fire line, putting out hot spots with the goal of increasing the containment percentage.
