I’m honored that the City of South El Monte has been nominated as a finalist for the Most Business Friendly City Award. This recognition is something our entire community can be proud of. But being business friendly is about more than what happens administratively at City Hall.

It’s about showing up for our businesses when they need us most. When ICE activity impacted our local businesses, I was there advocating for them and helping provide financial relief. When a new business opens its doors, I believe city leaders should be there to welcome them and help build a relationship from day one. We also have work to do.

This year, the City sued the Chamber of Commerce and lost. I believe it’s time to rebuild that relationship and bring the City, Chamber, and our local businesses back to the table. Moving forward, we need to strengthen these partnerships while encouraging responsible development that supports our local economy and serves the residents of South El Monte. Recognition is meaningful. Now we keep doing the work.

LAEDC - Los Angeles is getting ready for a once-in-a-generation moment—and I couldn’t be more excited about what it could mean for our region! 🌟

LAEDC’s new economic impact report finds that the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games could generate:

💰 $20.5B–$40.6B in economic output
👷 126,000–224,000 jobs
🏛️ Up to $5.9B in tax revenue
🌎 Roughly 2 million visitors
🛍️ Up to $4.3B in direct visitor spending in L.A. County

These figures represent something bigger: opportunities for local workers, new customers and contracts for small businesses, stronger infrastructure, and investment in communities across Greater Los Angeles.

The Games will last a few weeks. The legacy we build together can last for generations.

I’m incredibly proud of our team at LAEDC’s Institute for Applied Economics for producing this rigorous, independent analysis—and grateful to LA28 for entrusting us with this important work.
