Why wait ten minutes after laying your baby down to lie down yourself?
Ten minutes is typically enough time for a child to fall back to sleep after being placed in a crib, OR to wake needing additional comfort. Nothing is worse than settling back in bed, getting cozy, just to be woken by cries after a few minutes.
Additionally, it becomes more difficult to accurately measure time when we are in a sleep like state, sometimes making it feel that our child’s night wakings are stretching on for longer than they actually are; therefore increasing frustration!
So take the next ten minutes to grab a drink, use the bathroom, or check on other children. Try your best to avoid screens (phones and tvs) as much as possible, as the blue light can trick your brain into thinking it’s daytime (that means suppressing melatonin, our “sleep” or “relax” hormone).

Managing the holidays can be a tricky time, with lots of travel, family and friends, and special events. Often, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the change in our routine vs feeling excited and present in what we are doing.
The most important thing to remember is that your child will not be ruined forever if they have one, two (or even more!) days out of routine. Manage your expectations so you don’t get overwhelmed in these tips:
1. Plan some good naps at home if you can. If you’re going to be out all day, bring a mini sleep environment (sound machine, safe sleep space, comfort items) and try for an on the go nap.
2. Plan travel around nap times! A car nap may not be ideal, but some sleep is better than none!
3. Bring pajamas and anything else you may need for bedtime for the ride home. It’s helpful to do a mini bedtime routine before you get in the car if you’ll be heading home late. That way you can transfer them to bed or crib with minimal effort!
4. GIVE YOURSELF AND YOUR CHILD GRACE. Let’s make grace the theme of this season. Life changes on a dime and we should be enjoying these moments, not punishing ourselves for them! From me to you, happy holidays 😘

Having a new baby in our home has reminded me of the most important part of postpartum: giving yourself grace!
At 3 days postpartum, I can say with full honesty that I have spent the majority of the days (and nights) nursing or rocking my baby to sleep. The majority of his naps have been contact naps. And I have 0 guilt about it.
Eventually, I will give my son the skills to help him sleep independently. But for now, I will meet him where he is, which is needing me for support!
Sleep teaching can come whenever you and your family are truly ready. Whenever that moment comes, I am here. Until then, enjoy your baby in whatever way is authentic to you. 💕 🍼

Some of the deals this week can be really tempting; tempting enough to swipe a credit card you weren’t planning to use. The pressure to spend is immense during this time, and this year I decided not to add to it! That’s why I’ve decided to do a discount code after the holidays this year!
🌙
If you were planning to gift my services, please DM me privately and I will honor the discount code! If you’re interested in using the code after the holidays, be sure to add yourself to my email list on my website to receive first access!

Have a toddler climbing out of their crib, but not ready to take the leap and transition to a bed yet? Here are some tips to extend your child’s crib time and keep them safe.
Children are often most successful with the transition to a bed around 3 years old, because that’s when they start developing the self control skills to keep themselves in an open bed. However, lots of families practicing other philosophies like Montessori make the transition as early as 4 months!
Ultimately, it is YOUR choice when you take your child out of their crib. When did you, or do you plan, to take your child out of the crib and what was that change like for your family? 🌙

“Sadness, discomfort, frustration- they are all valid human emotions. Why would we want to suppress them?”- Magda Ge**er ✨

The next time your child fusses, maybe pause. Let them feel that emotion for a minute. There is nothing WRONG with feeling any emotion in the human experience. Interjecting quickly to “solve” the “ problem” can teach a child that it isn’t okay to feel their feelings deeply. Let’s let our kids feel their big feelings, while being beside them to support and OKAY their feelings, but not to “fix” ❤️

A beloved picture I have hanging up in my classroom ✨
For those of you who don’t know, I started my childcare journey in the daycare field and remain in an Infant classroom, caring for children between 6 week and 18 months. Before I was a certified Sleep Consultant, I spent years researching sleep and helping my students form healthy habits.
This philosophy is a driving force in both my classroom and my company. ⭐️Everyone is different, everyone belongs. ⭐️
Every parent is different. With different ways of parenting, different experiences, different CHILDREN. And all children (even those from the same parents) are different too.
As a Sleep Consultant, I pride myself on knowing that, while I am the sleep “expert”, the parent is an expert on their family. Part of working with me is knowing that I will always take your desires, needs, and thresholds into consideration. ❤️
