🎉 What does a thriving local business community look like? It looks like this. 🎉

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting for E. A. Buck Financial Services in Leland, NC and it was a great reminder of why organizations like the North Brunswick Chamber of CommerceNorth Brunswick Chamber of Commerce matter so much.

The turnout was incredible. Neighbors, business owners, community leaders, all showing up to celebrate a company that has been helping people build and protect their financial futures since 1980, now putting down roots right here in Brunswick County.

That's what the North Brunswick Chamber does. They create the connections, the visibility, and the community support that make moments like this possible. Some people slow down during Memorial Day week. Not this crew.
The North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce twice monthly Power Connections networking all-stars showed up and showed OUT proving that when the community is strong, even a holiday week can't thin the herd!

Real business owners don't take breaks from building relationships.
And speaking of new energy we had one of the strongest groups of first-time visitors we've seen in a while. That's not an accident, that's momentum. First-time visitors are the lifeblood of a thriving chamber. They bring fresh perspectives, new opportunities, and the kind of enthusiasm that reminds the rest of us why we keep showing up.

Another electric morning at the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce Power Connections, and this room did NOT disappoint.

We had a packed house of Brunswick County business owners, entrepreneurs, and community builders all doing what they do best: making real connections and creating real opportunities. Every person got their 30-second spotlight. Every handshake had purpose.

Our featured presenter today was Jamie Howell of Saltwater Signworks and she absolutely brought it. Jamie walked us through how great signage is so much more than just slapping your name on a building. It's your brand's first impression. It's what makes someone pull into your parking lot instead of driving past. It tells your story before you ever open your mouth.

A recent LinkedIn poll rated the biggest business challenges busines owners faced as follows: cash flow pressure (10%), ...

A recent LinkedIn poll rated the biggest business challenges busines owners faced as follows: cash flow pressure (10%), hiring and retaining talent (10%), customer acquisition (60%), and keeping up with regulations (20%).

Where the poll SUPPORTS the Health Check

The 60% pointing to Customer Acquisition as the biggest challenge is consistent with the Health Check. When asked what's extremely important to them, 88.24% put Lead Generation/New Customers at the top, the single most unanimous answer in the entire survey. Its clearly priority number one.

The Health Check also shows why acquisition feels so hard. The weakest scores in the entire dataset cluster around the top-of-funnel and conversion machinery:

Tracking conversion rates at each stage: 5.19/10 (43.75%, second worst)
Feedback loop from sales to marketing: 5.63/10 (50%)
Lead qualification before committing resources: 5.81/10 (56.25%)
Ideal customer profile clarity: 6.44/10

If you can't define who you're selling to, can't qualify the leads you get, can't measure the drop off, and aren't sharing that back to marketing acquisition is going to feel broken. The poll confirms the symptom; the Health Check diagnoses the cause.

Where the poll CONTRADICTS or complicates the Health Check

This is where it gets interesting.

Only 10% picked "Hiring & Retaining Talent" as their biggest challenge, but the Health Check tells a different story. Accountability and performance tracking scored 4.93, the worst score on the entire survey. Coaching and development sat at 5.93. And 35.71% gave "right people in the right roles" only a 5 out of 10. People and leadership issues appear to be dramatically under-reported in the poll. Leaders are feeling acquisition pain but may not be connecting it to the team underneath them.

Only 10% picked "Cash Flow Pressure" which is supported by the Health Check. Pricing strategy confidence scored 7.31 (the highest in the survey at 87.5%), and sales goals aligned with business objectives hit 7.75. Businesses that feel good about their pricing and commercial direction generally don't panic about cash.

"Keeping Up With Regulations" at 20% is the orphan finding it isn't measured anywhere in the Health Check.

The Headline Insight

Your audience thinks their problem is "we need more customers." The data suggests their actual problem is "we can't measure, qualify, or convert the opportunities we already have, and we're not holding anyone accountable for fixing it." Customer acquisition is the presenting symptom. Broken sales ex*****on tracking, qualification, accountability, and lack of coaching is the underlying disease.
