🚨 DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME IS A GREAT TIME TO CHECK YOUR SMOKE ALARMS! 🚨
As we adjust our clocks for Daylight Saving Time, Spanish Fork Fire & EMS encourages everyone to take a few minutes to check the smoke alarms throughout their home.
A working smoke alarm can make the difference between life and death. This simple check could help protect you and the people you love.
🔥 Here are a few important reminders:
âś… Check the batteries: Make sure every smoke alarm has working batteries. Replace batteries when needed, and test each alarm using the test button.
âś… Check the manufacture date: Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years, even if they still appear to be working. Look for the manufacture date on the back of the detector.
✅ Clean your detectors: Dust and debris can interfere with proper operation. Use a can of compressed air (air duster) or a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to gently remove dust from the detector. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
âś… Check every level: Make sure your home has smoke alarms on every level, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas.
📊 WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the death rate in reported home fires is approximately 60% lower when working smoke alarms are present than when they are absent.
Smoke alarms provide early warning, giving you and your family precious time to escape.
A few minutes today could save a life tomorrow!
Please take the time to check your smoke alarms, replace outdated detectors, and make sure your family has a home fire escape plan.
From all of us at Spanish Fork Fire & EMS, stay safe!
