There’s something magical about spending time in nature and meeting new people. You never know who’s going to show up! Last night most of our group was filled with new faces and we spent a lot of time laughing and sharing stories about life completely surrounded by the best views in Reno 🧡 Thank you to the ladies who made it out last night!

Meet our May Member of the Month, Susan Marin of Sue’s Sourdough & Such! 🥖🍅

After retiring from teaching, Sue has been building a business centered around creativity, flexibility, and serving her community — from homemade sourdough bread and grape jam to kids clothing, alterations, and more. We especially love her heart behind it all: bringing smiles to people through something handmade and meaningful.

Sue is currently taking pre-orders for sourdough bread and tomato plants and can bring orders to next week’s meeting if you’d like to support her small business.

🌿 Less noise. More connection.
🌿 Less pressure. More purpose.
🌿 Less networking-for-the-sake-of-networking…more meaningful relationships.

Join us for our May EMPWR AM Meeting on Wednesday, May 20 at 10am upstairs at Reno Public Market as we explore this month’s theme: “Less is More.”

This meeting will feature intentional small-group discussions focused on building genuine connections, creating thoughtful collaborations, and making space for the relationships that truly matter — in business and in life. 💛

We’ll also be supporting our May Nonprofit of the Month, Ashlee's Toy Closet

Please consider bringing a NEW, unwrapped toy to donate.
Requested items include:
🧸 Small Lego kits
🎨 Adult coloring books & markers
🃏 Pokémon cards

For more than 13 years, Ashlee’s Toy Closet has helped children experiencing tragedy, disaster, and personal loss by providing the comfort of brand-new toys during incredibly difficult moments.

AND…we officially have just ONE vendor table left for this meeting! Vendor spots are only $25 and include a chance to briefly introduce your business to the room. If you’ve been thinking about grabbing the last one, now’s the time. 👀

If you’ve ever wondered how EMPWR uses membership dues, ticket purchases, or donations, we’d love for you to take a moment to read this information that is available on the Donation page of our website.

Support the EMPWR Collective

Your donation is a ripple that empowers women to rise.

EMPWR Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to support women-owned businesses and female entrepreneurs in Northern Nevada. Every dollar you contribute helps us build a stronger, more collaborative community of women who are leading, healing, creating, and giving back.

Where Your Donation Goes:

Your support helps fund initiatives that create real impact:

Speakers & Event Experiences
We bring in guest experts, educators, and motivational speakers to inspire and equip our members.

Business Education & Mentorship
We have a goal to invest in powerful workshops, coaching programs, skill-building courses, and 1:1 mentorship to help women grow their businesses confidently. We are making headway with this but not 100% here yet financially but your donation and membership dues support this goal

Goal: Grants for Struggling Women-Owned Businesses
Life happens and when it does, we would love to help women keep their business dreams alive through emergency support grants.

Goal: Grants for Women-Owned Startups
We would love provide seed funding to help new founders take the leap with confidence.

Goal: Youth Entrepreneur Support
We would love to support and mentor young women in business, helping the next generation rise with tools and confidence.

Community Events & Local Collaboration
We have 35 events every year that are zero cost for women to attend. That does not include the free member experiences, workshops or resources we provide at a free or extremely reduced cost.

Support for Local Nonprofits
Every month we feature a community nonprofit and share proceeds from our 50/50 raffles to extend our impact outward. We have a goal that would allow us to match donations.

Goal: Host Retreats & Healing Events
We believe rest, sisterhood, and healing are essential. Your donation would help us provide accessible retreat experiences to women in all walks of life. These tend to be super expensive so we would love to create a retreat that is accessible to everyone.

Overhead expenses: running a nonprofit is exactly the same as running a small business. It costs money to operate. Just like you, we have overhead expenses like website hosting & domain fees, system fees, credit card fees (that we don’t pass on), supplies for events, office supplies, filing taxes and venue fees just to name a few. Your donation helps us keep our bills paid so we can keep our doors open.

Why It Matters

So many women are building businesses without mentors, funding, or a community that truly understands the unique challenges of entrepreneurship. That’s exactly why EMPWR exists.

Every membership and donation helps provide education, connection, support, opportunities, and a space where women can grow together instead of trying to do it all alone.

What many people may not realize is that our entire Board of Directors is made up of volunteers who have collectively poured thousands of hours into building this organization. This has never been about making money off anyone, it has always been about creating something meaningful for the women in our community.

We are incredibly grateful for every paid member, every attendee, and every woman who continues to show up, support one another, and believe in what we’re building together.

Transparency matters deeply to us. If anyone ever has questions about membership dues, donations, or how funds are used, I am always happy to answer them and even walk through how everything is managed. We care deeply about operating with integrity as we continue growing sustainably and creating long-term impact for women in our community.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. 🫶🏻

If you made it this far, thank you! If EMPWR Collective has made an impact on your business and your life, we would love to hear about it in the comments.
