Happy Birthday to Explorer Skidmore!

Last night during their training, our experienced explorers helped teach and drill the newer explorers on proper donning and doffing techniques for their gear.

All explorers then learned about scene safety, the incident command system and other hazards to be aware of to help prepare the newer explorers for ride alongs.

The next regular training night for explorers will be this coming Wednesday the 30th.

Our next meeting night will be this Wednesday starting at 6:30pm.

If you’re on the fence, there’s still time to join in, and it’s free!

Last night explorers were introduced to vehicle fires (simulated with straw bales) alongside probationary firefighters (also former explorers) from Steeleville Fire. They learned about extinguishment tactics, common hazards and were able to observe how fire behavior in a vehicle can be different than other types of fire.

We’d like to thank Steeleville for setting up and letting us use their training facility for this demonstration.

Last night as part of practice, Explorers helped a new Sparta resident get smoke detectors installed as part of the Be Alarmed program which helps homeowners obtain free 10 year detectors.
