Roane Vineyards Farm Winery Roane Vineyards has closed. The time has arrived for our retirement from Roane Vineyards. We reduced our wine inventory and finally closed in 2015.

A few years ago we sold our winery equipment and began to downsize the vineyards. We purchased a sail boat and have enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway.

​Roane Vineyards Farm Winery was an enjoyable adventure and enabled us to meet and make friends over the last 20 years. To all those who visited us and who have enjoyed our wines, we thank you.

Well, the time has finally arrived. We have permitted the License for Roane Vineyards Farm Winery to expire. As of July 1st, 2015 Roane Vineyards is closed. This is a very sad time for me personally. It was almost 20 years ago, that I planted my first vines. Most people thought I was crazy and I questioned myself when working in the vineyards with a 40lb back sprayer in 96 degree heat. But overall it has been fun, and a great bonding time with family. My objective was to develop a unique business that would make the people of Spencer and Roane County proud to be associated and one that would attract tourists to our area.
I want to say thank you to all those people who visited the winery and enjoyed a bottle or two of Roane County, West Virginia, happiness. Proceeds from the sale of winery and farming equipment went toward the purchase of a sailboat named "Corkscrew". At age 73 I am getting a little old for a sailboat, but now in my third year of sailing I am beginning to get the hang of it.
Roane County still has two great wineries: Vu ja de Vineyards and Chestnut Ridge Winery. They are owned by great people, and both have beautiful tasting rooms. Gave them a visit and enjoy their hospitality.

Roane Vineyards "Red Ice" wine is back. We first offered it in 2012 and it was a big hit. Red Ice is an "ice" wine, made from grapes picked after they had frozen on the vine. The result is the juice from these grapes is very sweet and thick like syrup. Ice wines are considered dessert wines and offer a perfect way to finish a meal.

I have been asked, What will happen to the "Black Walnut Wine Trail" with the future development of the larger "Country Roads Wine and Distillery Trail"? We plan on continuing the Black Walnut Trail for a more local, (read Roane County) trail. Activities will be planned with just Roane Vineyards, Vu Ja De, Chestnut Ridge and hopefully one other facility, all located within 8 miles of each other.

Wowl Quite a Week-end. Thanks to all those who took time to visit Roane Vineyards . And a special thanks to all those who did the Black Walnut Wine Trail. If you missed out on visiting all three wineries, plan on doing the trail next year. AS a matter of fact, get some friends together and make the tour during the up coming holiday season. Check here or the pages of Vu Ja De, and Chestnut Ridge for specials and hours of operation.
