Come see the new Spencer NE Volunteer Fire Department truck this Sunday at 5 m at the "wet down and push in" dedication ceremony - burgers and brats to follow! (And I'll share full pictures of the truck after the ceremony, too π)
A wet down and push in ceremony was a traditional way for fire departments to dedicate a new
apparatus, dating back to the 1800βs. So, what is a wet down and push in ceremony? When
firefighters got to the station after a call, they would unhook the horses and wet
them down before brushing and stalling them. Then, they would put the apparatus into the
station, so that it was ready to go when the next call came. This tradition has made a comeback
in recent years, as a way for departments to show their appreciation to the community. It also
gives the community an opportunity to see how their tax dollars are being used. The Spencer
Rural Fire Board recently took delivery of a new rescue pumper and the Volunteer Fire
Department would like to welcome the community to itβs own wet down and push in ceremony to
celebrate this addition. The event will be held on Sunday, September 10
th at 5 p.m. First the
new truck will be wet down by the truck it is replacing, and then everyone is welcome to push
the new truck into the station. Finally, we welcome everyone to join us for burgers and brats to
celebrate the dedication of the new truck. Thank you all for your support and we look forward to
seeing you there!
