LINC Malt

LINC Malt We source barley, wheat, rye, oats and other specialty grains from our local farmers, malt them, and then sell them to brewers, distillers, and bakers.

Craft malt stands as the point of partnership between the durable skill of Inland Northwest grain growers and the ever-expanding vision of the brewing and distilling communities of the American West. Steeped in an agrarian commitment to farmer-ownership and holding a priority towards relationships that span the grain supply chain, LINC Malt is determined to reinvent the value of malt and add a new

chapter to the compelling story of Inland NW grain. Our production model ensures grain varietal and farm-source identification in every batch of malt, allowing us to make malt with distinct, high quality flavor profiles reflective of the skill of Inland Northwest farmers and the unique geography of the region’s farmlands.

It’s no secret that sometimes we get to do cool secret s**t. But that we are also committed to transparency. So, you know, we had themselves out to run QA on the first ever crop of salmon-safe certified Purple Egyptian barley. Grown by , we’ve been running consecutive batches these past few weeks to make a mountain of Vienna malt.

Verdict is: this stuff tastes like heirloom raisin bran and it’s probably gonna make whiskey as singular as what pitched us on—making them an unusual-for-whiskey malt spec using wildass barley grown with care by a mad farmer and malted with around-the-clock-effort by our motley crew.

It’s not always easy, but damn it can taste good.

Holy crap, it’s Craft Malt Week!

It’s been a sprint of a summer. The new barley crop looks beautiful. It doesn’t feel like there is much room to take our foot off the gas — but having a week to celebrate does feel nice.

Cheers to all the great people behind the barley, the beer and the booze. You make the Malthouse what it is — and what it is becoming. This craft malt thing is turning into a hell of a party.

As our malt makes its way to breweries up and down the west coast, it has become important to have far-flung brewers visit where their grain is farmed. We want them to experience just how special the grain-growing regions of the Inland Northwest are, and how that shapes what we do at the malthouse.

As we continue to sink our roots here in Spokane, we recognized there might be some fun in reflecting back to our local community all of the places Inland NW grain is ending up, and all of the great beer being made with our region’s barley.

We’ve got a gaggle of folks visiting for harvest in August, and in partnership with our homies YaYa Brewing Company] and , we’re stoked to bring some of what started here back: beers made by , , , , and .

YaYa will be hosting this beer fest on Friday, August 12, and you can find tickets at the link in our bio and via YaYa Brewing Company]. We’re so excited to introduce some of our further-away friends to our home-base beer family, and celebrate all that is special about our Inland Northwest grain & brewing landscape.

Homie Zac took on all of our packaging and fulfillment operations at the start of the year, and safe to say he’s been a game-changer at the malthouse. We cajoled him into a glamour shoot this afternoon in preparation for shipping off the last totes of Cashup wheat making their way into this year’s 3-Way IPA. Fair to say the results came out as equally glorious.

Here you find Zac, looking off to the west (towards Astoria, you say?), clearly nostalgic after two months of wheat toting. (That’s him smouldering, you say? You’re probably right.)

Cheers to the fine folks at the Fort, and the crews at and for crafting a banger. It’s been a fun couple months here in malt-land, time to focus on drinking some summertime IPA.

Collabin’ with buds. Just wrapped a whirlwind Cali blitz hanging with and in anticipation of Moonraker’s sixth anniversary bash. Relentless hospitality and a little hi-jinx along the way.

The crew put to use Genie Pils from .farms and a load of bright punchy hops promise a bright, big west coast IPA. Puts a big smile on yer face just thinking about it.

Tooling around SoCal for a week…the centerpiece being a solid brewday and some terrific hospitality (and lager) from the folks at .

What went into the tank (on its journey to becoming a big-boy double westie) started with a vision by of a series of fundraiser collabs, brewed up and down the coast.

Friendships going way back to childhood, as well as new ones (we were introduced to Old Standby just this winter) came together for this brew, and credit is due to Ryan for seeing the potential in that. Props to and for donating raw materials, and especially to our homies and partners at for kicking in on the Genie malt used.

We’re stoked to see how this beer comes out, and to help support the partner nonprofit, .

Friends of friends. We’re coming up on six years of making malt…and it feels clear the party is just getting started. These past months, we’ve had our eye on reconnecting with maltsters dear (and far…far away from Spokane). It has been a total treat.

That more friends, new and old, would come out of the woodwork in the process shouldn’t have been a surprise. Yesterday, packaged our multi-malthouse, multi-brewery collab with colorful Coloradans , and western WA wonders, .

But, real talk: the actual magic was a month ago when a brewday morphed into a rolling tour of some of Seattle’s best, biggest, smallest, caskiest, lageriest, and hospitality-est beer makers. It was a treat. For certain Spokanites and Denverites, it ended with a crab feast. It felt like a sign of good things to come. Call us sentimental, but this friends of friends biz is where it’s at.
