Community Spotlight: FAMILY PROMISE of SPOKANE

Family Promise of Spokane is more than a temporary roof for families experiencing homelessness. It is a community of support, resources, and opportunity that helps families build a path toward stability, independence, and a place to call home.

The impact is significant. In 2025, Family Promise of Spokane served 4,160 people across 1,180 families, including 2,354 children. Today, the organization highlights that 96% of those engaged in its programs stay stably housed, demonstrating the lasting impact of helping families move forward.

The Al Marzetta Foundation was proud to partner with Family Promise of Spokane for its annual UnGala fundraiser, helping celebrate an incredible evening that raised nearly $200,000. Supporting Family Promise means investing in families, strengthening our community, and advancing a powerful mission: helping families overcome homelessness through a hand-up, not a hand-out.

Community Spotlight: Hutton Settlement Children’s Home

For more than a century, Hutton Settlement has given children something incredibly important: stability, opportunity, and a place to call home. Inspired by Levi Hutton’s own experience as an orphaned child, Hutton welcomed its first child in 1919 and has been changing lives ever since.

Hutton provides far more than a safe place to live. Children have opportunities to learn by doing, building confidence, responsibility, and practical experience through hands-on activities and entrepreneurial programs. HOPE Neighborhood Roasters and Hutton Christmas Tree Farm & Market are a few examples, giving children firsthand experience in operating a business while developing skills they can carry into adulthood. These opportunities help foster independence, a strong work ethic, and confidence in their future.

A heartfelt thank you to Chud Wendle for inviting Altek and The Al Marzetta Foundation to Hutton Settlement’s donor dinner. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn more about Hutton’s remarkable history and hear firsthand from children who call Hutton home. It was especially meaningful to contribute to Hutton’s continued mission through funds raised at our annual Hackfest Golf Tournament.

It was a wonderful evening celebrating an organization that has made such an enduring impact on children and our community.

Community Spotlight: Providence Sacred Heart Hospital Spokane

Providence Sacred Heart Hospital is more than a hospital. It is a vital part of our community, reaching beyond traditional healthcare to care for people when and where they need it most.

Whether providing comfort to children and families, creating opportunities through Providence Saints adaptive sports, or extending care and resources to people experiencing homelessness, Providence continues to demonstrate what it means to truly care for a community.

This week, Providence gathered donors and community partners who help make these programs possible. The Al Marzetta Foundation is honored to be among those supporters and to continue our commitment to Annika and her work with children receiving care.

Meet Our New Business Development Manager!

Craig Tobin joined Altek in 2023 as a Program Manager, bringing over two decades of manufacturing experience across multiple industries. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and an MBA from Eastern Washington University. Selected as an internal candidate for this newly created leadership position, Craig earned the role through his strong performance, industry expertise, and commitment to Altek’s mission and values.

As a contract manufacturer serving highly specialized markets, Altek manages complex programs with unique customer requirements and evolving priorities. Craig’s vision is for his team to be “the reason customers choose Altek and stay with Altek.” He is focused on strengthening collaboration between customers, business development, and operations to ensure a seamless customer experience.

To support this vision, Craig is leading efforts to streamline new program launches, enhance alignment between account and program management, increase customer engagement, and drive operational excellence through continuous improvement and cost optimization. These initiatives will help Altek remain competitive while continuing to deliver the quality, reliability, and service our customers expect.

NIC: BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION OF SKILLED MAINTENANCE PROFESSIONAL

Students from North Idaho College’s Industrial Mechanic and Millwright program recently toured Altek, gaining firsthand exposure to the equipment, processes, and people who keep a manufacturing facility running every day. The tour was led by Joe George, Altek’s Maintenance Supervisor and a 27-year Altek veteran.

Through NIC’s 11-month Industrial Mechanic and Millwright program, students receive hands-on training designed to prepare them for successful careers in industrial and manufacturing environments. The program is led by Chris Gordon.

Altek is partnering with North Idaho College to build relationships with the leaders and students entering the skilled trades and explore opportunities to develop a future pipeline of qualified maintenance professionals. Investing in these relationships is one more way Altek is helping strengthen the skilled workforce needed to support the future of manufacturing.

During their visit, students were introduced to a wide range of maintenance responsibilities and equipment throughout the facility, including presses, motors, pumps, electrical systems, welding equipment, cranes and rigging. They also learned about troubleshooting equipment breakdowns, preventative maintenance, work orders, technical manuals, and special projects.

Behind every successful production run is a skilled maintenance team working to keep equipment safe, reliable, and operating at its best. Their work plays a critical role in keeping production moving and ensuring quality products reach our valued customers.

Meet Our New Director of Engineering!

We’re excited to welcome a talented engineering leader to the Altek team, Stuart Shilling.

With a Bachelor of Science in Plastics Engineering Technology from Western Washington University, along with certifications in Project Management, Project Leadership, and Change Management, Stuart brings more than 10 years of experience spanning engineering, quality, product development, and business leadership.

His diverse background combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership experience. He previously served as Chief Engineer at a Yakama-based manufacturing organization, where he led product development from concept through production. He has also held leadership roles in aerospace engineering and quality, as well as business unit management.

This broad experience provides Stuart with a well-rounded perspective across technical development, operational leadership, quality, and business strategy, making him a valuable addition to the Altek team.

At Altek, his focus is on strengthening engineering processes, improving communication and accountability, expanding New Product Introduction (NPI) capabilities, and creating scalable systems that support continued growth. These areas of focus will help Altek better serve our customers and sustain Altek’s longevity as a premier manufacturer.

Stuart’s leadership philosophy centers on servant leadership, continuous improvement, and team development. He believes great leaders remove barriers, empower their teams, and bring engineering, quality, manufacturing, and business together to turn ideas into results.

Altek is excited to have RJG Academy onsite for a three-day training focused on standardizing our Mold Technician processes and procedures.

This hands-on training is designed to bring greater consistency to how we approach mold setup, troubleshooting, process documentation, and day-to-day mold technician activities. By establishing standardized methods and best practices, we can reduce variation, eliminate unnecessary steps, improve efficiency, and create a more consistent approach across our team.

Most importantly, this investment is about more than improving our internal processes. It is about creating greater value for our customers. A standardized and disciplined approach helps us improve response times, reduce downtime, strengthen quality, and support more predictable production outcomes.

TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR LEGACY: MIKE MARZETTA

Mike Marzetta is not one to shy away from a challenge. When Mike stepped into the role of President of Altek in 2002, he had just five years with the company and had recently completed his Master’s Degree in Organizational Development. Despite the enormity of the responsibility, he took the challenge head-on and began transforming both the culture and direction of the organization.

His leadership was grounded in a team-first philosophy built on trust and respect. Mike helped move Altek away from an autocratic, old-school management style toward a culture of collaboration and innovation. More importantly, his genuine compassion for people helped create an environment where team members felt valued, supported, and part of a family, not simply employees.

Mike was also willing to make difficult decisions when others might have hesitated. During challenging economic times, he championed strategic investments that positioned Altek for future growth, including pursuing AS9100 certification for aerospace and ISO 13485 certification for medical devices. Those decisions opened doors to new markets and helped establish Altek as a respected custom manufacturer throughout the Inland Northwest.

Beyond Altek, Mike played an important role in building the region’s manufacturing and aerospace community. Alongside other industry leaders, he helped spearhead what is now known as NIMA, formerly INWAC, helping elevate Spokane and the Inland Northwest as a recognized center for aerospace and advanced manufacturing.

After 25 years as President, Mike made the difficult decision to pass the baton to Jacob Bonwell, Altek’s Chief Operating Officer. After five challenging years navigating the fallout from COVID, Mike knew it was time to bring his life’s motto, “Make a difference and have fun doing it,” back into focus.

As Mike put it, “Like many athletes, there comes a point when one must decide whether to continue competing, step away, or transition into a coaching role.” After wrestling with that decision, Mike chose a new chapter.

Today, Mike continues his legacy at Altek as Chief Innovation Officer. With a renewed spark, he is focused on helping transform Altek into a “LEAN Machine,” leading innovation initiatives and supporting the organization’s next level of growth, sustainability, and continuous improvement.

Mike’s impact on Altek cannot be measured simply by titles or years served. It is reflected in the people he invested in, the risks he took, the opportunities he pursued, and the culture he helped build.

Thank you, Mike, for your heart, soul, sweat and tears over the past 25 years. You have positioned Altek for its next chapter, and now, with a new generation of leadership and your continued guidance, the best is yet to come.

After 50 years of growth, innovation, and transformation, Altek is entering an exciting new chapter. Please join us in congratulating Jacob Bonwell on his promotion to President and Chief Executive Officer of Altek, Inc.

Since joining Altek as Chief Operating Officer (COO), Jacob has made a meaningful impact through his thoughtful, solutions-oriented leadership. He has worked closely with employees across the organization to understand our people, processes, and systems, while challenging the status quo and turning ideas into action. His focus on accountability, communication, continuous improvement, efficiency, and teamwork has strengthened Altek’s foundation and positioned the company for sustainable growth.

Just as importantly, Jacob understands that Altek’s greatest strength is its people, their knowledge, experience, dedication, and commitment to doing great work. He has earned the confidence of ownership and the leadership team through his performance, character, and commitment to Altek’s future.

As Jacob steps into the President/CEO role, Mike Marzetta will transition from President to Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) after 25 years of leadership. Mike has played a defining role in Altek’s transformation from a small tool-and-die operation into a globally recognized, full-service custom manufacturer. His vision, persistence, and commitment to innovation helped expand Altek’s capabilities and establish important industry certifications, including AS9100 and ISO 13485, further strengthening the company’s position in the aerospace, medical, technology, and defense markets. Mike will continue driving innovation and improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, training and development, and be a support for what will be known as Altek University. He will also remain actively involved as Chairman of the Board, providing strategic guidance and helping maintain alignment with Altek’s long-term vision and growth objectives.

Jacob’s promotion represents an exciting opportunity to build on Altek’s 50-year foundation while pursuing ambitious goals for growth, profitability, innovation, and the continued development of our people. His experience, understanding of Altek, and ability to bring people together make him exceptionally well positioned to lead the organization into its next chapter.
