TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR LEGACY: MIKE MARZETTA
Mike Marzetta is not one to shy away from a challenge. When Mike stepped into the role of President of Altek in 2002, he had just five years with the company and had recently completed his Master’s Degree in Organizational Development. Despite the enormity of the responsibility, he took the challenge head-on and began transforming both the culture and direction of the organization.
His leadership was grounded in a team-first philosophy built on trust and respect. Mike helped move Altek away from an autocratic, old-school management style toward a culture of collaboration and innovation. More importantly, his genuine compassion for people helped create an environment where team members felt valued, supported, and part of a family, not simply employees.
Mike was also willing to make difficult decisions when others might have hesitated. During challenging economic times, he championed strategic investments that positioned Altek for future growth, including pursuing AS9100 certification for aerospace and ISO 13485 certification for medical devices. Those decisions opened doors to new markets and helped establish Altek as a respected custom manufacturer throughout the Inland Northwest.
Beyond Altek, Mike played an important role in building the region’s manufacturing and aerospace community. Alongside other industry leaders, he helped spearhead what is now known as NIMA, formerly INWAC, helping elevate Spokane and the Inland Northwest as a recognized center for aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
After 25 years as President, Mike made the difficult decision to pass the baton to Jacob Bonwell, Altek’s Chief Operating Officer. After five challenging years navigating the fallout from COVID, Mike knew it was time to bring his life’s motto, “Make a difference and have fun doing it,” back into focus.
As Mike put it, “Like many athletes, there comes a point when one must decide whether to continue competing, step away, or transition into a coaching role.” After wrestling with that decision, Mike chose a new chapter.
Today, Mike continues his legacy at Altek as Chief Innovation Officer. With a renewed spark, he is focused on helping transform Altek into a “LEAN Machine,” leading innovation initiatives and supporting the organization’s next level of growth, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
Mike’s impact on Altek cannot be measured simply by titles or years served. It is reflected in the people he invested in, the risks he took, the opportunities he pursued, and the culture he helped build.
Thank you, Mike, for your heart, soul, sweat and tears over the past 25 years. You have positioned Altek for its next chapter, and now, with a new generation of leadership and your continued guidance, the best is yet to come.
