Spokane, you flooded social media with footage of law enforcement violence during protests in June, but we need you to turn what you witnessed into actual complaints. The Office of Police Ombudsman for Spokane Police Department has a meeting on Tuesday August 19th at 5:30pm. We need as many people there as possible to give testimony about what they saw, and we need to get as many honest accounts of what was witnessed as we can before then.

You can submit a complaint here: https://my.spokanecity.org/opo/forms/online/

You can also drop into The Hive on Tuesday August 8/12 from 3:30-6:30 and I'll be there with a group of volunteers who can help you form a complaint or submit on your behalf if you are concerned about privacy.

June 30th, 🔥Melt ICE🧊 action: Support the "Safe and Welcome in Spokane" ordinance at Spokane City Council tonight.

This Ordinance makes it possible for Spokane Parks Department to declare part of public parks and streets "non-public".

Our immigrant and refugee neighbors are self-selecting out of Spokane's vibrant public events like Hoopfest, Pride, Tacos & Tequila, and more due to fear rampant warrantless arrests and harassment from ICE. This hurts Spokane's events economy, and it threatens the value that "In Spokane, We All Belong".

To be clear, if Department of Homeland Security has a legitimate warrant for someone's arrest, this ordinance does not stop them from acting on that warrant. But we know that ICE, in their own report, said over 65% of arrests have had NO criminal history and no active warrants, but have been arrested using ICE over-empowered use of "probably cause" to profile mostly black and brown people. This ordinance does not stop any law enforcement from acting on a legitimate active crimes or criminal investigation during these park events IF they have done the due diligence of backing it up through our legal system. It does send a message that Spokane will not let our public events be a hunting grounds for ICE's racial profiling and harassment.

The Spokane Regional Health District Board of Health will be voting on Thursday to possibly EXPAND treatment services! And to think a year ago the conversation was on whether or not to even keep the program public. I'd certainly like to think the hundreds of people who shared their support of the program through community engagement sessions last year had something to do with getting to this point. You can attend the meeting on Thursday the 26th at 12:30 pm to give comment.

CIVICS: In the same meeting though, they may also vote to reduce their health equity commitment down to the bare bones legally required.
