Slow living means breakfast with my littles. My favorite meal. Hmmm, explains so much about why Peoples Waffle has been such a passion project for me.

I grew up on these waffles. Light and slightly sweet. Crispy with a soft interior. They are perfection. They're my Grandma's recipe and while I made a few adjustments in order to produce larger quantities...they are very close to my childhood memories.

I feel so honored that she gifted me with the recipe and blessed my use of it in the restaurant. I can't think of a better legacy to leave than the knowledge that I've helped feed hundreds of people something wonderfully tasty and in the process hopefully spread a little love and sunshine. That's what it is all about. At the end of the day it's not about the money (that you never make as a small, first-time restaurant owner) or any public accolades--it's about the people whose lives are just a teeny tiny bit brighter.

I get asked often how event planning became my jam. I think it's just a natural extension of the hospitality that I love to shower my friends and family with. What better way to care for people than to bring them together in artful and creative ways, feed them, and send them off into the night with gifts.

These Tokki gift tags have become an essential piece of events that I throw because they are: Female owned. Locally owned. Environmentally friendly. Cost-effective. And BEAUTIFUL. I have been obsessed with these for a long time now. This year I asked family and friends to start using Tokki's reusable gift bags in place of disposable bags that can't be recycled for all our gift giving. We ditched tissue paper as well and now we make fun, personal videos for the occasion and load them onto the QR code gift bows. Doing good all around. Love it.

Connection. What does that word mean to you?

The internet has changed how we make and keep connections. Social media can be an incredible tool for this. I'm as much a fan of the IG scroll as the next person. (although TikTok and I aren't that close...for so many reasons) However, to build true community, it has to be in person.

Language matters. Words matter. Our expressions and an element of human touch--these matter. The only way to challenge one another is to ask questions, be curious, and engage IN.THE.SAME.ROOM.

And yes. In case you were wondering. It is messy and hard and we will not always get it right. But that is also integral to nurturing community. We must hold space for each other. Space to make mistakes. Space to laugh. Space to screw up. Space to be human. This is true connection to me.

Any one who knows me, knows that coffee and I are the best of friends. Most meetings take place over coffee. I almost pour it down the throats of those around me...almost. My favorite activity everywhere I go is to find all the great, local coffee shops and try a cortado at each of them.

My luxe cafe, is an extension of that passion. The coffee we serve, is my all time favorite which is why I pursued them and formed an incredible wholesale partnership. They care about every human involved in coffee culture from the farmers all the way to the shop owners, baristas, and of course all the coffee drinkers. Every cup brings me joy. No exaggeration. The world around me has to be reeling from more trauma than it knows how to heal from. And we keep generating more. There's no other explanation for the atrocities we are witnessing both close to home and globally.

Trauma is anything that robs us of our ability to stay present and connected and to use our personal power to respond with kindness and love.

Trauma destroys our inner voice and silences the truth we know in our bones. Trauma incapacitates us and pushes us to the edge where we do not act--we react, we are on the defense and everything else breaks down around us. Then we find ourselves hurting those around us.

As I attempt to sit with our collective trauma I find that stillness and deep compassion for myself are the only places I can start from. I love my city. I am trying to love the country I live in. I want to love on a global scale and to tap into the universal consciousness that IS love.

We can heal and move forward. We must.

Every one needs the encouragement and support of fellow humans and I think for entrepreneurs, dreamers, and visionaries it is especially important to surround yourself with people who love you and champion you, despite your flaws.

Running small, independently owned businesses in the US is an extremely daunting and often overwhelming task these days. You can often feel unsupported in a political climate that benefits the big corporations 100% of the time. Mistakes you make can be financially, physically, and emotionally disastrous. There’s not really a safety net for us. At the end of the day, having the care and support of your community is KEY to preserving your sanity and giving you the courage to keep on keeping on.

I’m so grateful for my friends and family. I’m especially indebted to one of my best friends and my chosen life partner, . He has always been my biggest champion and there is nothing better than knowing he will be there beside me on the triumphant days AND the ones where I’ve fallen flat on my face.
