This tree is a Catalpa tree! Fishing communities have long appreciated Catalpa trees because they host black-and-green caterpillars known as Catalpa worms, the larval stage of the Catalpa sphinx moth. These caterpillars are considered excellent bait for catfish and bass, and many anglers freeze extra worms for later use. 🐟🎣
So, if you have a Catalpa tree, you may be growing fish bait without even realizing it!
