Only qualified drivers should be eligible to receive and retain a CDL. That’s why as of Nov. 18, 2024, having a “prohibited” status in FMCSA’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse due to a drug and alcohol program violation will result in losing or being denied a CDL or commercial learner’s permit. New resources now available for carriers and drivers, including a Return to Duty Process video. https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/.

Great news for truck drivers and other essential transportation workers! Today, the Senate unanimously passed legislation ATA championed to eliminate redundant background checks and duplicative fees for credentials they need to do their jobs.

Thank you Senator Roger Wicker, Senator Jon Tester, Senator Deb Fischer, and Senator Angus S. King, Jr. for supporting hardworking truckers by moving this bill one step closer to the finish line.

CVSA has set the dates for next year’s Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI) for each of its three member countries. In the U.S., the initiative is scheduled for Jan. 13-17, 2025. Canada’s HTAI dates are Feb. 17-21, 2025. And in Mexico, HTAI is set for March 17-21, 2025. CVSA’s annual five-day human trafficking awareness, outreach, identification and prevention initiative educates commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers and the general public about the crime of human trafficking, the signs to look for and what to do if you suspect someone is being trafficked.

As we get deeper into November, the sun is setting earlier, there’s a chill in the air and the last of the leaves are dropping. That means it’s time for Wisconsin’s bears to start getting ready for torpor!

What’s torpor? For starters, it’s what bears do over the winter (they don’t actually hibernate). To put it simply, think of hibernation as a deeper sleep and torpor as more like lots of little naps. When in torpor, a bear’s metabolism doesn’t drop quite as low as an animal in true hibernation, so they can still get up every now and then to forage for food and, if necessary, defend themselves (so it’s best to keep a safe distance).

Even though they aren’t truly hibernating, bears still need to prepare their bodies for the winter ahead and pick out a good den. When searching for a den, bears typically look for something well-hidden and warm, so they might dig out a spot under downed trees, hollowed trees or rocks.

This fall and winter, the DNR’s bear research team is studying black bears and their dens as part of the Black Bear Litter and Diet Survey, which will help us better understand key reproductive rates needed to inform bear management decisions throughout the state.

"OOIDA and the 150,000 small business truckers we represent congratulate Representative Sean Duffy. We look forward to working with him in advancing the priorities of small business truckers across America, including expanding truck parking, fighting freight fraud, and rolling back unnecessary regulations. We encourage a swift confirmation in the Senate and look forward to working with the new administration." - President of OOIDA Todd Spencer 🚛
