"My oven is giving our family a headache, literally"

A customer contacted us that when they used the lower oven, they would get a strong gas smell and they would get headaches. They had a warranty company come out and the technician said that the unit was nonrepairable. They had another technician come out that said they needed a main board and then ghosted them!

After months of dealing with this, they decided to reach out to us. We performed a proper diagnosis of this issue and found that all it needed was a simple adjustment. Attached down below are photos from the repair. In the first photo, the flame appears incomplete and inconsistent. This is the reason for the gas smell the customer was experiencing. In the next photo it shows when the adjustment was made to the air intake. It becomes more consistent and has complete combustion across the flame bar. During final testing of the unit it preheated as it should.

"That's not how to uninstall a door"

This customer had just previously moved and after getting it hooked up to water, the unit immediately leaked. Once the front cover was removed, I found the water lines were cut instead of just being disconnected.

If the doors have to come off, there are instructions of how to disconnect the water lines on the front cover they had to remove to get to said water lines. Luckily there was enough water line left that we could just change out the connectors and it no longer leaked.

Another stand mixer back in working order. This unit hasn't been working on since it was new in the early 2000's. Always very satisfying whenever we get the opportunity to save another from the landfill.

This stand mixer should be good for another 1-5 years, depending on use, before the grease and seal will need to be changed.

"Clean your washer filter every 2-3 months" says the manufacturer.

This is a little bit of an extreme case, but the washer filter was not cleaned regularly which eventually took out the drain pump due to hair twisting and prevently the drain impellor from spinning.

The typical symptom of a clogged washer filter would be that the washing machine that doesn't drain or drains very slowly.

Like I said, this is a more rare symptom, but be warned this is a possibility of lack of maintenance.

For maintenance, I always recommend 3 things for front load washing machines.

1: Keep a cloth on top of the washer so you can clean off the washer door glass and the gasket to ensure no hair is present where the door shuts and to dry up any remaining water. In addition, leave the door open when not in use

2: Run the self clean cycle once a month with or without a washer cleaner tablet. I'd prefer the cleaning cycle be run even if you don't have a cleaner tablet as it is better to have run it versus not run it. I run the "self clean" cycle on the 1st of the month so it's easy to remember.

3: Every 2-3 months clean the washer drain filter. This ensures the washer can drain properly and prevents the above listed failures to occur. Follow the manufacturers recommendation for your machine.

Well that could've ended a lot worse...

Luckily it stayed contained within the main board enclosure.

Samsung dryer decided it didn't want to do the one job it had.

Sadly, this repair is not considered economical due to needing a new main board and wiring harness. In addition, even if it was, they don't make the needed parts anymore, so it would not be possible. The customer will need to purchase a new machine.

Here at Logical Appliance Repair, we are always glad to give our repair or replace opinion because sometimes it doesn't make sense to repair a unit on its last leg.

This week, we had an LG dryer that stopped heating and gave off a "NP" error code after they cleaned the dryer vent.

Through further troubleshooting, I found the unit had a burnt connector which was causing the no heat and giving the unit a "NP" error code. New connector and thermal cycling thermostat and it is back up and running. This was all done in the same day also!

This one was definitely a little strange as cleaning a dryer vent won't cause the unit to fail in the way it did.

"What are those bubbles on that metal?"

Anytime we install a part that has to do with gas, we use a bubble solution to verify no gas leaks are present.

Gas appliances can be a little scary when they aren't working properly. This unit had a broken k**b, so they couldn't turn the gas off. After a new gas valve was installed it now works like it should!

Recently we were able to save another stand mixer! Stand mixers should have their grease changed out every 1-5 years depending on how often it gets used. Changing grease often helps the machine t last longer and help prevent grease from leaking into your baking goods!
