On May 5, TMG, Inc. proudly honored the 2025 Welders of the Year from New Horizons Regional Education Centers, continuing a tradition that began in 2004. (ARLINGTON, VA) – The National Defense Industrial Association - (NDIA) is expanding its partnership with the U.S. Navy's Talent Pipeline Program (TPP) to enhance talent acquisition, training, and retention across the U.S. Navy defense industrial base (DIB). According to NDIA’s Vital Signs 2025 report, critical components of the U.S. DIB, particularly skilled trade positions, have significantly declined over recent decades. The TPP is actively reversing this trend by training, coaching, encouraging, and recognizing small and medium-sized companies to improve their Talent Acquisition and Retention systems of recruiting, training, and retaining productive and engaged workers crucial to maintaining naval supremacy.

On April 22, 2025, Joe Barto, Program Leader of the U.S. Navy Talent Pipeline Program, spoke at two key industry events in Northern Virginia. At the Aviation Industrial Association (AIA), he participated in a panel highlighting successful workforce programs nationwide, focusing on strengthening the Defense Industrial Base. Later, at the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) quarterly meeting, Barto introduced the Talent Pipeline Program to chapter leaders, aiming to expand its reach beyond established regions. These engagements underscore the program's commitment to broadening its impact and supporting workforce development across the defense sector.​

On May 7, the Virginia Talent Pipeline Project (VTPP) held its second “Signing Day” Ceremony at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside hotel in Norfolk, Virginia. The VTPP aims to reinvigorate the defense trade skills workforce in the Hampton Roads region and across Virginia. The signing ceremony formally recognized the work of 57 defense employers in Virginia and the Carolinas, who collectively hired more than 1,200 workforce members into mission-critical careers in the Defense Industrial Base.
