Question of mulch or no mulch...
Does mulch attract Termites? I wish I had a dollar for every time I was ask this question in 30yrs of PC service...
ANSWER - No it doesn't, the purpose of mulch is to retain moisture for the plants, if you retain moisture on the surface this means Termites can stay on the surface longer. They require moisture, and this is the sole purpose of mulch beds.

Next time hire a professional, this is what you get when a construction guy shows up with a skid steer trying to make a couple bucks. You get an ice skating rink. And I guarantee you dude does not have insurance, we are required to carry 2mill G&L to do snow and ice removal.
I guarantee you this dude has no insurance.
