Last week, Congress Fire responded to reports of a brush fire on SR-71 and milepost 108. Yarnell Fire Engine 98 was dispatched to assist Engine 97 and Water Tender 97 in containing and extinguishing the fire. Battalion 9, Priority 751, and YCSO provided additional assistance.

No injuries were reported, and the fire was quickly extinguished. Please remember to be mindful of dragging chains and to call 911 to report any kind of emergency.

Yesterday afternoon, Yarnell and Congress Fire Districts, along with Priority Ambulance 751, Car 902 (Williamson Valley-Bagdad Fire District), and Native 4, responded to reports of an injured hiker on the Granite Mountain Hotshot Memorial Trail. Crews provided medical treatment in conjunction with Native 4. They assisted the hiker in descending the trail. The injured hiker subsequently decided that hospital transport was unnecessary.

As a reminder, always take plenty of water and food for yourself and anyone hiking with you. Make sure you inform friends and/or family of your intended hiking route and the anticipated time of your return.

Are you seeing smoke?

Prescribed fire operations, primarily involving pile burning, are planned by fire managers on the Prescott National Forest within the Prescott Basin of the Bradshaw Ranger District. The hand piles originate from recent hazardous fuels reduction and thinning projects. Pending the receipt of all necessary approvals, ignitions may commence as early as Monday, December 8, and persist through January 2026, contingent upon favorable conditions. Recent rainfall has created favorable conditions for pile burning in various regions across the forest. Smoke impacts are anticipated to be minimal and discernible from Prescott, Prescott Valley, Wilhoit, Chino Valley, Dewey Humboldt, and surrounding areas. As nighttime temperatures decrease, smoke may persist in drainages and valleys.

Today, Bagdad fire crews responded to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, they discovered a grease fire in the kitchen that extended into the attic and successfully extinguished the fire. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries. This incident serves as a valuable reminder to never leave the kitchen unattended while cooking. Never use water to extinguish a grease fire. Instead, turn off the heat source and smother the fire by sliding a metal lid over the pan.

Yesterday Mayer fire crews responded to a motor vehicle accident on State Route 69. One of the vehicles involved in the accident caught fire and was quickly extinguished by firefighters. One fatality was reported on scene. Drivers of both vehicles were transported by ambulance to a nearby trauma center.

A reminder to the public to stay clear of emergency personnel on an accident scene and respect the privacy of those involved.
