Your reminder that legacy furniture is the only furniture that APPRECIATES. A $1,200 antique chest holds value, while a $400 prefab piece is worth $0 in 5 years!!

I knowww I’m biased, but the quality gap between European antiques and mass-produced pieces is NOT subtle. One becomes an heirloom and the other ends up in a landfill!

Save this if you’re considering a furniture investment. And ask me anything in the comments!!

But usually, hiring a designer isn’t a question of “should.” It’s a matter of “when!”

WHEN you decide you want to build/renovate and you realize the job is too big to juggle alongside your daily life.

WHEN you spent thousands on your last renovation and still don’t quite love it.

WHEN you buy the house with potential but have no idea where to start.

We’re ready for your when 🤍 If you’ve worked with us (or any designer) before, what made you decide you were ready?

The skinny on stone!!

The big 3: natural stone (marble, soapstone), quartz, and quartzite (also a natural stone)

Natural stone is great for those appreciate patina and character because these stones tend to be softer and more porous, which leads to etching and staining. Although sealing helps with this!

Quartz is manufactured to be durable and non-porous, so it’s great for families, rental properties, and anyone who doesn’t want to babysit their countertops. However, depending on your style, quartz can lean a little too “perfect.”

Quartzite is 100% natural stone, unlike quartz. It’s stronger than marble, but still requires maintenance. It’s great for someone who likes the look of natural stone but wants a bit more durability.

Questions on countertops? Drop them below!

{ The Weight of a Thousand Choices: How decision fatigue keeps you from creating the home you really want }

For a lot of us, homes begin the same way weddings do… in daydreams and Pinterest boards, duh!

When the time finally comes to bring those ideas to life, you’re excited. Showroom visits. Material selections. Samples laid out like a puzzle waiting to be solved.

But for most of my clients, that excitement quickly turns into overwhelm. Standing under fluorescent lights of a showroom faced with 200 plumbing options or tile samples, they feel paralyzed.

When the showroom wall feels overwhelming, it’s tempting to settle for the safe choice.

But safe can slowly strip away the soul of your home.

If you’re craving guidance that makes the process feel effortless and personal, let’s start a conversation 🕊️

Do you ever walk into a home and feel… nothing?

Like it could belong to anyone, anywhere?

That’s the reality of the cookie-cutter epidemic sweeping through interiors, and Texas (despite the really cool people who inhabit it) hasn’t been spared.

The choices you’re given, whether in-store or by your home builder, leave you torn. Too many options to process, yet none that feel like you.

As a designer who’s been inside countless homes over the last four years, I’ve seen the same uninspired elements from boring hardware to unused nooks to a total lack of architectural interest.

In this video, I’m breaking down the patterns I see again and again. If you’re ready for the part that matters most (how to turn it around) you can read the full post now for free on my Substack, The Barefoot Designer 🤎

{ Getting Back in the Saddle: What failure, prayer, and grit taught me about building a lasting studio }

There were nights I prayed for clarity, days I sat with my husband weighing my options, and even a job interview when I wasn’t sure if my studio would make it. (Spoiler alert: I still don’t know that I’ll ever be sure!)

But nothing came through. And one afternoon, sitting in my car, I asked myself: “What’s my plan B?” The answer was sobering - I didn’t have one.

This isn’t just a rebrand, it’s a return to my roots 🤎

Some of my earliest memories are in my grandma’s shop, sanding furniture and learning that design is about honoring what came before.

That’s the heart behind Eldest Daughter. Creating Texas homes that feel soulful, layered, and lasting.

Four years in, this feels like a homecoming. Thank you SO MUCH for all of the love on my last post announcing this new chapter 🤍
