🥵 Hot Attic = Big HVAC Air Ducts Problems. We inspected a home this week near Spring TX where the homeowner couldn’t figure out why the humidity inside was always high. The AC was running, but the house still felt sticky.
After getting into the attic, the problem became pretty clear.
The attic had ridge vents, but no exhaust fan to pull the heat out. By 9:00 in the morning, the attic was already over 80 degrees near the roof. The air handler was installed right next to that heat.
We also found a few air leaks around the system from previous work. Cold air was escaping into the attic, and when that cold air meets a hot attic, you get condensation.
Over time, that moisture can lead to mold growth, dirty ductwork, damaged insulation, and higher energy bills.
What we recommended:
✔ Add attic exhaust fans to remove trapped heat
✔ Seal the air leaks around the HVAC system
✔ Replace older ductwork where needed
✔ Improve humidity control with a whole-home dehumidifier
The AC unit itself was sized correctly for the house. The problem wasn’t the equipment—it was the environment around it.
A lot of homeowners think high humidity means they need a new AC. Sometimes the real issue is hiding in the attic.
