The first hard freeze of the year in NWA tends to catch people off guard, and pipes pay the price.
A few things worth doing before temperatures drop below freezing:
Know where your main water shutoff is. If a pipe bursts, turning off the water fast is the single most important thing you can do to limit damage. If you're not sure where it is, find it before you need it.
Insulate exposed pipes. Pipes in crawl spaces, garages, and exterior walls are the most vulnerable. Foam pipe insulation is inexpensive and takes an hour to install.
Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses. A hose left connected can hold water against the spigot and freeze back into the wall.
Let faucets drip on nights below 20 degrees. Moving water is harder to freeze.
If a pipe does burst, call Best Option Restoration immediately. The faster water extraction begins, the less damage there is to remediate.
