Since the City of Springdale sits in both Benton and Washington Counties, our practice is to follow the more restrictive of the two. So as of this morning, the City of Spingdale is now under a burn ban.

Washington County Arkansas Judge Patrick Deakins has issued a county wide burn ban beginning today, August 11, at noon.

“Right now, we have to consider not only the threat of fire, but also the conditions our firefighters and other emergency responders are working in,” said Judge Deakins. With temperatures in the upper 90s and heat indexes expected to exceed 100 degrees, the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke is very real. “A burn ban will not eliminate every fire, but it can reduce the number of preventable fires caused by outdoor burning. Every fire we can prevent means one less situation where we are asking our first responders to work in these extreme conditions.”

This past week, five members of our department had the incredible opportunity to serve as counselors at Camp Sunshine in Little Rock.

Camp Sunshine is a free, four-day residential camp designed for pediatric burn survivors. Entirely funded by the Arkansas Professional Fire Fighters and organized in partnership with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, this camp provides a safe, supportive, and fun-filled environment for some truly inspiring kids.

Tyler Moore, Clayton Wormington, Justin Pinkley, Brianna Harder, and Hunter Collins represented us with pride, spending their week alongside a remarkable group of children and fellow firefighters from across the state.

Today, we pause to remember our fallen brother, Firefighter/Paramedic Tony Spero, on the first anniversary of his passing.
Tony's dedication to serving others, his unwavering commitment to our community, and the brotherhood he shared with all of us continue to inspire our department every day. Though a year has passed, his memory remains a lasting part of who we are, and his legacy lives on in every call we answer and every life we touch.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the State of Arkansas for honoring Tony's service by retiring his EMT number. This meaningful tribute ensures that his dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Tony, you are deeply missed, forever remembered, and always a part of our family. Rest easy Brother!
