Let’s chat about alpaca fiber and specifically what is meant by “baby” alpaca fiber.

If you’ve ever bought any alpaca products, especially a sweater, scarf, or something you’d wear close to the skin, the label may have read “made with baby alpaca fiber”.

This doesn’t mean that the fiber came from baby alpacas. Although I see how that could be confusing 😂

Baby alpaca fiber denotes the grade of the fiber based on its fineness and softness. What this really means is that whatever you’re buying will feel really good against your skin!

In the world of alpaca fiber, grading is a crucial aspect that determines the quality, use, and value of the fiber. Alpaca fiber is graded primarily based on the diameter of the fibers, measured in microns, and the level of softness and fineness. There are 7 grades of alpaca fiber. The lower the grade number, the finer and softer the fiber will be!

Can we just take a moment and recognize the best girl there ever was?

Juno, our livestock guardian dog, has become such a good and reliable LGD. Trust me, it didn’t start out this way. We definitely had our growing pains (adolescence, am I right? 😅). Our journey has been a marathon to get here. Setting boundaries to set her up for success. Lots of redirection. Hours spent with her training and building our partnership. Long nights listening to her bark and bark 🫠

Now, almost 3 years later, she is trustworthy, reliable, patient, and sweet as could be. She is truly one of a kind and I’m so glad she chose us.

This post is for our friends and family who knew and loved Bronson.

Last week, while driving through Wyoming, we had to make the hardest decision of our lives and say goodbye to Bronson.

We got a call that he hadn’t been using his back legs. A trip to the emergency vet and several hours later, the diagnosis was that he had a mass in his abdomen that was bleeding. They didn’t know where exactly the mass was so exploratory surgery would be needed to find it.

We knew how hard this surgery and everything that would follow would be on him.

He can now run pain free with his sister, Lola. Until we meet again, Bubba. ❤️
