“Awww…look how strong he is, holding up his head and only a week old!”
But, that’s also the only position he is at all comfortable in. Being held upright. He hates laying on his back, all he does is arch and scream. He hates being on his stomach so tummy time is a far-away dream.
It all simply doesn’t add up. Why is one position tolerable when all the rest seem to be torture?
Often there is a restriction in the dura, the sac surrounding the brain and spinal cord. With it being anchored at the tailbone, the upper cervicals, and the inside of the skull, the dura can create a ton of external tension. This presents frequently with a baby who shouldn’t be able to hold its head up yet, able to do so. You also see that child who feels tense and is always arching, usually to one side or the other.
Overall, they are simply one very unhappy baby!
This is where having your little one evaluated by a certified Pediatric Chiropractor well versed in dural subluxation techniques is imperative. With a light gentle Adjustment that releases that dural tension, you can see the baby frequently melt immediately and relax, sometimes for the first time in their lives!
This can result in better sleep patterns, better digestion and elimination, and better latch!
If your baby is just never relaxed and seems to be tight all the time, dural restriction may just be cause. Give us a call. We’re here to help!
