How do you adapt and thrive when all the odds are against you?
What do you do to overcome obstacles with ease and fun?
How to be flexible and pivot as necessary?
❓
Funny enough, last week, when I was supposed to speak at The Dream Queen Association about overcoming obstacles and adapting in any circumstances, I myself faced a series of big obstacles.
🌪⛈
On the morning of the speaking presentation, a tropical storm with tornado happened in my area, and my house was out of power. As scary as the whole thing was, on top of everything, I had no way of connecting to the virtual event.
Fortunately, my husband came up with a solution of attaching my laptop though a power cord to his car. We still had the internet, so that took care of the connection piece.
However, my beautifully designed PowerPoint file that I had prepared for the event was left on my computer, which could not be powered through the car.
With the little time that I had left, I had to rebuild the PowerPoint from scratch. I kept rebuilding it up to the moment I had to speak. It wasn’t as perfect as before, but it was fully done exactly 10 seconds before it was my time to present.
🆒
As stressful as it could have been, I was amazed by how much ease and fun I was feeling throughout the whole morning. And to think, even a few years ago, I would be a complete emotional wreck and gave up before ever trying to see hidden possibilities and work it out.
😫
I would complain and blame the weather and blame myself for not creating a copy of the presentation elsewhere. I would probably even snap at my husband trying to help me because deep inside, I would know that even if he fixes the power, I would not be able to handle the rest. I would panic because the morning wasn’t perfect and didn’t go smooth, to say the least. I didn’t have time to do my usual pre-speaking ritual like meditating, practicing my presentation, doing makeup and enjoying my breakfast. Instead, I had to adjust quickly, do something else to make it work, drop what I’m used to and be okay with that.
🥳
So, what’s the secret? What has affected me so much that I was able to go through the events with such peace and positivity?
✅
Adaptability skill.
💯
After successfully going through a few major pivots in my business as well as my life (and helping my clients do the same), I’ve come up with 5 things that help you adapt and thrive through anything in any circumstances.
💬
And that’s exactly what I talked about in my presentation this week at Dream Queens Charles County networking virtual event hosted by Maryanna Lanham Jones.
📈
Other than watching the recording from this event, I highly recommend checking out The Dream Queen Association and their amazing cause: https://www.yourdreamqueen.com. I’ve been networking at their events in Central and Southern Maryland for over two years, and I can’t begin to describe how empowering it’s been for my business and my life. But Dream Queens don’t only empower business women and women in general. They also empower teen girls through their Gals Lead Teen Program that they provide in four schools of Maryland (and growing). Positive, passionate, purpose-filled Dream Queens create a huge ripple effect by promoting Heart-Centered Leadership for women&girls!
