As the country pauses to honor workers this Labor Day holiday, we want to celebrate the vital contributions of nonprofit workers. The New Jersey Center for Nonprofits says nonprofit organizations in the state employ more than 340,000 people, or almost 10% of New Jersey's private workforce. Nationally, the latest numbers show nonprofits account for 12.8 million jobs, also about 10%, making the sector the third-largest employer behind only retail and manufacturing. These numbers represent the dedicated workers who deserve our appreciation not just on Labor Day, but every day. So, to all of them, we say thank you and job well done!

A quarter century on, 9/11 has become the largest day of charitable service in the United States. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, as it's officially known, sees more than 30 million people annually take part in community projects. This year, as the country observes the 25th anniversary of 9/11, there are many ways to get involved. A few places to find volunteer opportunities include 9/11 Day, AmeriCorps, Points of Light, Jersey Cares and many local organizations. Together, we remember and we honor.

The world is celebrating the life, and mourning the loss, of Dolly Parton, and remembering her extraordinary generosity. In ways big and small, public and private, she gave back - and gave some more. She was awarded the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy four years ago, and said, "I just give from my heart. I never know what I'm going to do or why I'm going to do it. I just see a need and if I can fill it, then I will." AP takes a look at Dolly Parton's legacy, including her remarkable Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which has gifted more than 330 million books.

Dolly Parton's death is shining a new light on the country music icon's philanthropy. The Library of Congress has called Parton a “titan of children’s literacy” for the millions of free books provided monthly through her Imagination Library.

You might have heard about a little New York wedding over the holiday weekend! It turns out that fans of newlyweds Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are celebrating by donating to charities - many giving $13.87 at a time. Combining her favorite number and his jersey number is resulting in a flood of small donations to nonprofits. Those gifts are on top of the $26 million the couple just gave to charities, and now grateful organizations are offering their thanks. Yahoo has the story of this outpouring of generosity.

The numbers are in, and the new Giving USA Foundation 2026 report shows Americans donated more than $617 billion to charities last year. That's up 5.7% from the year before, outpacing inflation.
